Default Mayfield 21 Milan (TN) 7 (Scrimmage)

Varsity portion of game final was Mayfield 21 Milan 7. Milan's loan score came after Mayfield drove deep into Milan territory and Milan picked off a pass and returned it to the Cardinals 1 yard line. Defense was pretty impressive espically against the run. Milan missed atleast 1 open deep pass that could have hurt the Cards. Offense moved the ball almost every drive mostly through the air with a run sprinkled in here and there to keep defense honest. I think the Cards will run more durning the season but given the heat and not wanting to get Jackson hurt kept them from running as much tonight. Mayfield qb play was inspiring to me. Jake Guhy looked much improved throwing and in decision making. Jackson was his usual self though the Cards limited his touches on offense. WR's need more fine tuning but looked better than I expected. Line struggled against a much larger line on running plays but gave Guhy pretty good protection when passing.

Mods might want to add Scrimmage to the title as I forgot to do so

Agree with everything Toothpick said. We are on the small side but fast. May have to do something else at NG. One thing that stood out was there are a lot of sophomores getting playing time with the first team.

Sounds like that is good for Mayfield and bad for the rest of the state. Good luck going forward.

I was suprised and pleased with the cardinals considering the limited use of Jackson. Undersized in secondary but we get to the ball well. I believe we will be respectable. I really liked the sophomore Tyler when he ran the ball, some pretty good speed there. We may struggle early in the heat with key players going both ways.

Well done Cardinals. Speed wins. What was the score last year in this scrimmage?

I don't recall but I think they scrimmaged longer last year and I do know we won last years scrimmage which is impressive for us given that they went on to be state runner up in 3A

I like Jordan Tyler (#32) sophmore, he can really really fly. I'd find a spot for him on offense.

My son is a sophomore but twisted his ankle the day before the scrimmage and didn't get to play.

The good news is that it was a scrimmage and not a game, I'll be keeping an eye on him

Guhy has certainly matured and bulked up slightly at the QB spot. Still worried that he continues to overshoot his target at times, like last year. Also leaving his receivers out to dry on occasion, some of those guys are going to get popped HARD and never see it coming.

Just part of the learning curve but it looked much better than last year to me

He had a lot more zip on the ball this year.
