Seriously, I sure hope not regarding the accident. We were about 20 cars behind and really couldn't see anything.
A lot of holding calls. Mason shot themselves in the foot several times with those.

We were close to the front of the line at the accident before we turned and took a detour. Usually it's bad when you have traffic stopped 100%. My thoughts and prayers to those involved.

Congratulations to Mason. I was interested to see how Rowan would do in this match-up.

Really? Gonna play that card after the fiasco at Maysville last year when RC was flagged 17 or 18 times, all but 2 thrown by one guy?

Good win for Mason. I was able to watch this on Wazzoo Sports.

At least you had a person with sparkling personality to talk to on the phone while you waited.

You're only playing the card when you lose. Nobody's saying Mason didn't hold. They've had too many holding calls in other games. It's a problem they need to correct. No one's blaming refs but you. Besides, the a single official commonly calls most holds because of where he's lined up and what he's supposed to watch.

[/B][/I][/U]Rowan has a much better team than they showed against Mason. I couldn't believe the onside kicks to start the game. I think the Rowan Co. coaching staff has to take responsibility for this one.Poor game plan. Rowan has one of the best kickers in the state and didn't kick the ball deep, kept giving Mason field advantage all night long. Rowan's defense played really well, keeping the Vikings in the game, even into the 4th quarter. Rowan tried some trickery plays, three that I remember, and none of them worked, instead of just playing basic smashmouth football. Rowan tried to get the 1st down on a 3rd and 12 down, and didn't make it, instead of kicking, again giving Mason excellent field position. The Rowan Co. offense, just couldn't put anything together, Cross was shut down totally, couldn't believe Rowan didn't go more to Phillip Hodge and Stephen Williamson, if three people are on Cross, then someone else is open, all night long....Dissappointing loss, the team didn't seem to be as up as I thought they would be for this game, seemed to be flat. Anyway, moving on to the Boyd Co game this Friday night, shouldn't be much of a matchup for Rowan, but it is the first District game.

Yep. The good teams find a way to win.

A side note to the game. We were sitting in the Mason County section and there was a young man sitting in front of us wearing green. He was obviously supporting Rowan County, so I started talking about "your stud players - Cross and Wing." He said that they weren't his players; he was a recent Lewis County graduate that had played at both Fleming County and Lewis County; so he always rooted against Mason County whenever he got the chance (lots of "big brother envy" in our neck of the woods).

He was a very sociable and entertaining fellow to sit with. It became something of a contest for the two of us to predict when the next Mason County penalty would be called. It was pretty much a draw.

I've seen lots of threads over the years where folks cry about the officiating (or some other reason why their team didn't win.) Again, the good teams man up and find a way even when things aren't going their way.

I agree with pretty much all of your observations. Rowan relied way too much on trickeration, starting with the opening kickoff. None of the gadget plays seemed to work. Mason's strength is usually team speed; and success against the Royals usually comes in the form of pounding it up the gut time and time again.

Good luck to Rowan for the rest of the season. The game could have gone either way up until the last few minutes. A classy team with classy fans. It was a pleasure visiting your school. The trick plays certainly didn't work.

Sometimes when a coach switches things up too much it gives the team the message that you can't beat this team unless we pull out something fancy. It hurts their confidence. I was surprised how well Mason contained Cross and the number of times a Mason defensive lineman or linebacker tipped a pass.
