Week Four

When seven of the power rankings top 10 lose in one week there will be some changes in the ranking for Lexington and Central Kentucky. The top 2 spots hold. Number 1 Scott County lost at home to Cincinnati Elder in a close contest, 20 – 14. Lafayette bounces back from their big loss to Trinity beating Boone County by a score of 40-13. The game was close at half with the General pulling away.

Though losing to Corbin, Danville moves up to three. That was because #6 Lexington Catholic lost to Covington Catholic and Henry Clay, who drops out of the top 10, was completely dusted by Tates Creek. The Lexington Christian Eagles are still undefeated after 4 weeks and having their best run since moving up to 2A. The Eagles beat Estill County 55 to 22. They are averaging almost 50 points a game while holding opponents under 30 on average. Are 2A teams really the number 3 and number 4 teams in Central Kentucky region? That is worthy of some discussion.

The other Eagles from Madison Southern are also on a 4 and 0 roll to start the season with a 35 to 7 win over Bourbon County. #8 Mercer dropped a close one to Southwestern.

Moving back into the top 10 are Tates Creek at number 9 and Bryan Station at number 10. The Commodores put the hurt on the Henry Clay and the Defenders defeated #8 Madison Central.

The Next Ten

3A Boyle County gets into the win column with a big win over 4A Anderson County, who dropped out of the top 10.
East Jessamine beat Clay County 49 to 28 and goes to 3-1 on the season. Western Hills beat Owen County to go to 3-1. Currently the Wolverines have the best record in District 4.

In addition to Lexington Christian, 3A Casey County and 1A Nicholas County are still undefeated this season at 3-0 and 4-0, respectfully. To get out the region Casey will have to go through their own district rival Corbin. That will be a challenge. Nicholas County is in a competitive 1A district. But for now these two teams are on a run.

Game of the Week – “Let’s Settle This”

#2 Lafayette at #1 Scott County, September 16, 7:30

Lafayette got the early press. But the Generals were in retreat against the Rocks. Scott County played Elder to within one score this week – an excellent showing against the traditional powerhouse.
