    From the Cincy Enquirer:

I was behind the endzone on the play with the questionable block in the back. In my opinion, it was a good no-call. Nice season for the Colonles, nonetheless.

Just a question for rules clarification.

On the offensive pass interference call on 3rd down, Lexington Catholic was penalized 15 yards. The next play was called 4th down. No one on the field questioned it, and the next play was snapped.
Was this a correct rules call?
I heard the radio announcers felt this was wrong, that the LC coaches should have been raising cain with the officials, but after the next play was snapped, it was too late to question it.

Does anyone know the official ruling on offensive pass interference in high school ball?
Is the penalty down and distance? (I always thought it was only distance, or loss of down with the penalty being declined.)

And for any Notre Dame fans out there, did that last CovCath pass/LexCath interception give you deja vu flashbacks to the USC game?
(I guess I should make that Notre Dame/Lexington Catholic fans)

Congrats to the knights on the win, and congrats to the Colonels on one exciting season, sorry it had to end so soon. I wish I could have been there.

It is the worst penalty in HS football. It is way too severe. 15 yards and a loss of down.

What does this have to do with anything? They both played a great game. Burke is going to outplay any QB in the state, I didn't know that was ever up for debate. Ellison did everything he could. A play here or there, and it would have been a CCH/HHS regional championship.

Tough way to end the season for the Colonels, but a great season. This was a strong senior class, and it sounds like they left it all on the field.
I'm sure Coach R will be ready to take this team a step further next year. Loads of talent in the junior class, and if he can plug some holes, I look for big things again. They were #2 in NKY this year, a great season, and a nice springboard to bigger things for the program.

    Loss of down was correct.

I agree with you Bluesport. LexCath's victory and Justin Burke's performance should in no way deminish the effort and skills shown by the CovCath QB. This was a great game and either team could have won. The most impressive area that I observed was LexCath rushing game stepped up when it had to. Just an aside...when will there be a rule change to allow returning kickoffs from the endzone. More and more highschool kickers have the ability to reach the endzone. Either let the receivers return the kick or move the kickoff back to the 35.

I agree CCH had a good season, and the seniors and the rest of the team played their heart out.

Justin Burke is excellent, he has at least 2 WR's that are burners, and a very speedy TB to utilize. No matter what team plays them, as they have proved themself vs. St X & CovCath, they are going to score points.

But I have to quetion leaving the CB's on an island all night and also playing all 11 defenders w/i 5 yards of the football. With a team as explosive as LC, the defense has to slow them down and make them drive the ball; that gives the defense more chances to make a play and the offense more chances to make a mistake. LC scored 4 TD's from over 35 yards. The defensive strategy really has to be questioned.

On the other hand, I loved CCH pounding LC with the run taking advantage of their physicality on the offensive line.

I was a little disappointed in Cov Cath's gameplan. I know that they wanted to do what they've done all season long, but when everyone of your WR's has 1 on 1 coverage, I think you have to take a shot downfield.

They did it very rarely in the HHS game, but came up with an 80 yard TD to Bovard. They did it very rarely again last night, and threw an INT to end the game. Had they taken shots down the field earlier, I think they would have made a few big plays and Lex Cath would have had to do something about it. I can't complain too much, since they put up 39 points, but it's frustrating to watch. Kudos to the LC DB's though. They were very physical at the line, and played a great game.

Bovard's diving catch at the sideline on 3 & 18 was a bigtime play. I believe it was a gain of 16, and Ellison ran for the 1st on 4 & 2. A great catch by Kurt.

Lex Cath is very explosive. I was surprised at how quick Burke was and how effective he was out of the pocket; however, I was a little disappointed with his throws from the pocket. That is definitely something that he'll need to improve upon on the next level. With that said, he's the best QB that I've seen all year and he throws a great ball on the run.

#1 & #3 for Lex Cath are deadly.

Lex Cath went for it on 4th down 3 times, I think. Once was at the end of the game when they ran the reverse and were stopped short. Were the other 2 times TD's?
