NKY seems to represent this half of the state, Danville and Mayfield are from seperate regions.

Beechwood and NCC have won 93% of the Semi State games in the last 14 years. That's owing the game played Friday night...

OK, but I'm just a little confused as to how NKY has owned 1A when you have non-NKY teams like Danville and Mayfield in 1A. Seems more ignorant than arrogant to me.

You've definately owned the substate matchup these last several years, no doubt about it...I do think Somerset brings a more athletic team to the table this year than most in the recent past...I think NCC pulls this game out, but, I really don't think it'll be a blowout, by any means, and I give Somerset a good chance to pull off an upset...This team has flown under the radar pretty much all year, much like the 98 Middlesboro team and this team has alot of those same qualities..

I love it when a team just overlooks someone thinking they are that much better than they are and are going to just roll over them, guess what it's the state semis everyone is good at this stage in the game no easy wins, and by seeing how Beechwood and Covington Cath played the"Breds" I think they better take it one game at a time. Somerset will give them a dog fight and hopefully will be playing on the carpet!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, so he meant NKY has "owned" 1A sub-state games. I read it as though he was saying NKY owned 1A as a whole. That is I why I brought up the state championship results from the past few years. I respect the NKY teams, but I am a Mayfield fan, so I have a hard time hearing that NKY owns 1A.

If you go back and see where I originally quoted the guy, it said NKY owned 1A. I thought he meant 1A overall, not just semi-state. If that is what he meant then I apologize. If he meant 1A overall, then it was ignorant. Oviously you didn't read my posts closely or you would have known that I WAS talking about 1A overall.

Dunc, if you're a Mayfield fan, abandon your discussion with these Yankees and come on over to the Mayfield/Bardstown discussion. We need new blood.

The east side of 1A has been owned by the north but with little help from anyone other than Beechwood and that little bit of help comes from NCC we all know that but how would NKY do in the west half of 1A. It would seem they would not have faired very well of late but prior to the arrival of Mayfield and more so Danville they owned the entire class A. I cant help but wonder how things in the 90's wouild have panned out if Beechwood had been on the western side of the bracket and had Mayfield and Danville been playing in their true class size ratherthan playing up. My guess would be that there would have been a few titles won by all three with Danville claiming the majority just as they do now.

After thinking about it NCC may have the best shot at winning the title this year of any of the teams left but it is by no means a sure bet. I think Btown would have to be given the 2nd best shot followed closely by Mayfield and then Sommerset will all having a decent shot. Earlier I had said I thought the winner would be the Btown-mayfield winner but after looking at NCC they are better than I first thought and I was posting a little with my heart

I probably should have worded the questions in a different way. I went and checked out the records for 1A in the last 15 years and I must say I was a little surprised. Turns out the NKY 1A teams are doing even better than I thought they were.

8 State Titles in the last 15 years with a chance at 9 of the last 16. In that same span, the North has been runner-up 6 times. I think owned semi-state kind of went without saying, sorry but that's what the numbers say.

Based on the record of the North in the last 15 years, one would think that would allow for a bit of arrogance on their part. 15 years is a small sample size in the grand scheme of things, but it is what it is and shows where the best football is being played right now.

The teams from the North are the ones to beat to take home the title in the most recent past.

Not if you read the post above. What Danville and Mayfield fans are pointing out is you should grab the sampling since they started playing 1A ball. When they came to town (Mayfield 1998?, Danville 1999) the balance of power has been more in their favor. Danville has 3 1A titles in last 6 years and Mayfield has 1.

NKY has a stranglehold on 1A Semi-Finals but not the state in the last 6 years.

Mayfield dropped to 1a in 95 and won it the 1st year over the Beechies

There has been one common opponent between these 2 teams. Newcath beat Pikeville 37-6, Somerset beat Pikeville 35-7. Pretty similar scores. Newcath is at home and should win this game. However, Somerset is not your typical mountain team. They've got speed and athletes across the field (I think Newcath's basketball team can attest to that as most of these same players beat Newcath in the All A last spring). I really hope that all of the confidence of the Newcath fan's on this site is being passed on to the team. Yes, maybe y'all should beat this team but you know what we're all about wasting sportswriters time and we're going to show up anyway. You might win and you might not but I promise you that you better buckle 'em down tight because we're no one's doormat.

Yeah a basketball game from last year has nothing to do with this game.
