    Default HHS 20th & 30th anniversaries for 1992 and 1982 state champs.

This year Highlands will honor the 1992 and 1982 teams at the November 2nd birds game. If you are a member or know anyone who is and can help me with contact info, PM me. I can't believe it's been 20 years since beating Billy Jack Haskins and the Paducah Tornadoes. That was the coldest game I have ever been to!

I've never been as cold at a football game as I was at the Highlands/John Hardin game in 2009. I was at the 1992 game, and I remember it being cold, but I don't remember it making me miserable. I guess that's the difference between 30 and 47.

Rob Reynolds and John Schlarman's senior year. This was the last state champion team that coach RED DOG Daugherty was a part of. I'll never forget what he did at halftime of the Cov Cath game. He said he'd give anything to put the pads on for one more play. He said "I might die but that S. O. (you know what) will never forget that hit!" then he picked up a cafeteria size table and put it against the wall and charged it from the other side of the locker room. I thought he was going to die. The best memory was him telling us the parrot joke only if we won state. We heard it in the locker room right after the game. Made the whole year worth it!

I thought the 2008 finals game in Louisville was colder. Sure have been some miserable cold finals/semifinals games but the alternative is worse.

If I recall correctly, didn't Phil Whaley score the only touchdown in the 1982 game? Good luck getting him to the celebration; he is in prison.

It was not Phil, WR Mike Thompson scored the lone TD

Correct, Mike Thompson, not Phil. Rained like crazy. Never been so water logged.

The Bankemper leap in OT to end the '82 playoff game against CCH ended one of the most exciting games and great atmospheres I've been part of.

You don't think the warden would grant a leave for this?

Glad this is being done. Those were two really, really good football teams. Kudos FTBIGBIRD for your assistance in making this happen.

November 2nd game? With 5 teams in the district what happens if the Birds miss the playoffs?

That is somewhat fairly accurate. He died during the 1996 year in which he was still a coach on that State Championship team. A great man!!!!

That was a thriller to say the least!!!! After watching that film oh I'd say 1000 times, it never gets old watching the reaction of one of the Schulte twins after Johnny flew like Superman on 4th & 1 into the endzone. I'm sure Johnny's ribs were a little sore after they peeled that pile to end the game.

The 82 HHS team was the first High School team in Ky to ever go 15-0. Does anybody remember who HHS played the 1st game of the year in the Recreation Bowl in Mt. Sterling. It was Christian Co. They went on to destroy 4A and win the State Championship in 4A when it was still only 4 classes. It's funny because Christian Co.'s record book that year had them at 14-0. Wait, they played 15 games!!!! LOL......

I was at that game. Christian Co had a stud D-lineman (i think). HHS held him pretty much in check and HHS won and controlled most of the game.

That's what game they told me. I only am the messenger. I thought that was kinda bold too. What if that's not a home game?
