Harlan Independent has been forced to forfeit their game against Harlan County on August 23rd. Assuming Harlan County is unable to schedule a different game for that week, the game will be noted as a 1-0 forfeit in Harlan County's favor.

As I stated in the other thread, it does appear that Harlan Independent will attempt to play their other nine games (all against similar sized schools). If for some reason they can't play, however, scheduling for the other nine teams becomes very difficult since so many of them are already playing each other. We'll have to see how it plays out.

    Looking at this situation:

    1. First and foremost, even though I can see why they chose to schedule this game from a marketing standpoint, this game should have never been scheduled from a competition standpoint. This is paramount to any other thought.

    2. With this in mind, I actually think Harlan Independent is doing the right thing by forfeiting if their roster size really is as small as the article mentioned. These late summer games are very difficult to stay healthy after, let alone when you will be physically mismatched and playing fresh bodies the entire game.

    3. With Harlan jumping into 1A Competition following this game it may be a positive they don't play and can play games they stand a better chance of winning at full strength.

    4. Tough situation all the way around because it was a game that shouldn't have been on the schedule. I am not sure I have ever advocated that a forfeit is the right thing to do before.
