Here is some additional from the KHSAA on this topic:
As a member of the media, you know better than most some of the challenges we face in the world today. One of the most pressing is whether or not our value system is keeping pace with technology. One could reasonably argue that it is not. The principles that govern our attitudes and activities seem to constantly be in flux.
As the linked op-ed column points out, there are answers. And one of them is participation in high school sports and activities.
Hopefully, your curiosity has been piqued enough that you’ll consider reading the attached piece yourself and then publishing it. Education-based high school sports are about so much more than having fun and playing games. They teach life lessons that can’t be taught in a high school math or chemistry class—a higher sense of ethics, empathy toward others and individual responsibility being among them. Isn’t that exactly what our community and nation need right now?
We hope that you would give serious consideration to re-publishing the op-ed. It addresses a topic that is becoming more urgent with every passing day, and the high schools in your community have an answer.
Thank you very much for your interest.
