Frederick Douglass High School Students replace Stallions with Broncos-
Official definition of bronco.
bron·co
ˈbräNGkō/
noun
- a wild or half-tamed horse, especially of the western US.
mid 19th century: from Spanish, literally ‘rough, rude.’
Unfortunately, the "urban" dictionary has a much worse definition. I believe the Fayette county school made an error in judgment.
There are a lot of new shirts, jerseys, etc to be ordered and I am certain Lexington area sporting goods dealers are loving it. "Keeneland" Green and Orange are the official school colors.
Apparently, there was fault found with "Stallions" being too masculine for the female population. "Broncos" does not seem to fit the ladies any better in my honest opinion. Nor does it reflect Kentucky's heritage as well as the original nickname. “Mustangs,” “Racers,” “Thoroughbreds,” and “Stampede” were the other choices. "Stallions" was not an option on the ballot. There you have it. "Go Broncos" is the rallying cry for Frederick Douglass High School in Lexington, KY.Advertisement
