Frankfort High Notebook 10/29/2014
The Bluegrass Preps 1A #5 Frankfort Panthers enter the last week of the season with a 7-2 mark and will host the 2A #6 Danville Admirals for senior night. The Panthers will Honor 12 senior football players before the game this Friday.
Frankfort is coming off celebrating their 9th straight District Title. The Panthers haven’t lost a district game since 2005. They last team that beat the Panthers in district play just happens to be this week’s opponent in the Danville Admirals. When Danville moved on to Class 2A Coach Foley liked playing the Admirals he believed that if you want to be the best you have to play the best. He and Coach Harp decided to make the game the last game of the season so each team could use the game to fine tune for the playoffs.
When asked Foley want his thoughts are about this year’s Danville team the first thing he says is “Speed”. This is probably the fastest Danville team that we have seen in a last 10 years. They have 6-7 guys that can just fly. It shows on both offense and defense. Foley says they are not very big last past Danville teams but they are aggressive on both sides of the ball and that makes them dangerous.
When asked what his teams focus will need to be this week to beat Danville Foley replied, “We have to be more physical” Over the last 3-4 weeks we have been working on improving on being more physical. I think we have gotten away from being physical just because we had so many injuries this season. So we have really stressed being physical and aggressive. In order for us to make another playoff run we have to be more physical. One of the main reasons we like to play Danville last week of the season they force us to play physical.
Player Spot light
This week’s player spot light will highlight a couple of unsung players on the team.
Morgan Campbell is a senior offensive lineman for the Panthers. Morgan busted into the starting lineup last season after a fellow teammate fell to injury. Morgan always has been a hard working kid and willing to do whatever to make the team better. Morgan will be the first to tell you he is not the biggest or strongest lineman. But the one thing Morgan brought to the team was dedication and heart. Morgan is undecided where he will go to college next fall.
Josh Bowen is another senior lineman/ defensive lineman. Josh has been a 2 year starter on defense and this season has started on the offensive line at the center position. Josh has played several different positions on defense, defensive line to Rover. Josh has been a key player on the defensive side of the ball. This season he was thrown into the position of center and has stepped up and accepted the challenge.
Both Josh and Morgan are the kind of kids every coach enjoys coaching.
