Funny story: Joe taught my younger brother. My brother wore those transition lenses in his glasses and they stayed dark in the fluorescent lighting at Trinity. Joe swears he thought my brother was a "druggie" or "stoner". As we became friends years later I tried to explain my brother won't even take an aspirin! Nor has he ever had a drink, let alone any other mind altering substances.

This confirms what I was told. This is just horrible. He was one of my favorites. Trinity losing two greats in a week, with the loss of Ted Bickel a few days ago.

Joe is now under the care of hospice at Jewish Hospital. He was removed from life support apparatus Sunday. He is resting comfortably per family members. He may stay with us for hours or days. I will keep this site updated.

Joe passed a little while ago. I will give memorial/visitation details when the family releases them.

Really sad to hear that, thsrocks. Coach Fowler sounds like he was certainly one of the good ones.

Just not the news I wanted to wake up to this morning. As a friend stated earlier, some teachers became friends when we left the halls of Trinity, and he was one of them. I'll certainly miss the banter and jokes he threw my way over the years. Whether him making fun of my long hair, or when I began growing my beard longer. He was one of a few I always knew I'd run into behind the end zone, under the score board during home football games. I'm actually seeking the right words...i have the thoughts.
