    Eligibility Question

If a coach at a school gets let go and they have a child at that school, can they transfer due to their parent moving jobs? I wonder how many questions would be brought up if they followed their parent to their new school they are coaching at now? Would their parent have to move for this to happen?

I don't think this is a problem. I've seen it happen a couple of times.

Bonafied change of address usually takes care of this with no problems.

The kid can follow the dad as long as he is employed by that school.

Still has to be a change of address, unless the previous school releases him.

    Schools don't release players.

I checked with the KHSAA on this.

There is no automatic waiver because Dad got canned. It has to go through a decision process like every other transfer.

    Horse feathers!

Not your answer, Clyde, but the KHSAA rule.

The school can't release them but they can check the boxes to make the process much easier. Just depends on the sending school.

I've always been told, by school officials, that if I coach at a school and my kid goes there and for some reason I take a different job and take my child with me, they are immediately eligible because I work for that school. Hence why students who live in one school district, but parents work in another, can go there without paying tuition.

From experience the child was ruled eligible immediately.

Might wanta contact Mr Bilberry at Khsaa. I was a coach at one school and my son played at another. Bona-fide change of address is the only thing that would allow him to play at my school with out loss of eligibility. Per the horse's mouth
