Doss 21 Fern Creek 20FinalAdvertisement

Big 4th quarter comeback for the Dragons. They have a little athlete at quarterback who can sling it to some athletes. Fern Creek's pass defense was exposed. It's either a cover 2 shell whose only adjustment was to go man-to-man. Since Doss has athletes that can match up with Fern Creek, the Tigers had issues covering. But it took Doss 2.5 quarters to realize they couldn't run on Fern Creek's stout DL.

Oct 5, 17, 10:51 PM #3Very good ballgame. I was super impressed with Doss' quarterback Deon Pumphrey. He isn't big, but he throws a very nice ball, gets it quickly to his receivers, and they all could catch. The offensive line did a good job in protection, too. Doss' downfall will likely be a less than stellar running game.
Fern Creek, on the other hand, saw quarterback Isaiah Hester leave with what looked like a hand/wrist injury and running back Dylan Dunbar, who was very effective, was in and out with what appeared to be an ankle injury. Too many turnovers for Fern Creek and Doss finally capitalized.

Super proud of our kids. Being down 20 late in 3rd quarter, they showed a lot of fight. It was good for our program. It is also exciting to know that Traynor will return in the next few days.

Oct 6, 17, 02:06 PM #6This was a terrific game! Sorry to @gchs_uk9 that we didn't get to sit together for this one.
Overall in the first half Fern Creek started with great field position and Doss had poor field position. Doss tried to run the ball and simply could not against a very strong front 7 for FC. FC could move the ball but turned it over at least 3 times in the first half (2 INTs and 1 fumble) all in the Red Zone. FC did run it in once though and led at the half 6-0. But clearly FC fans have to feel they should have had much more than 6. Give Doss credit for making those plays.
Second half, FC took the opening kickoff methodically right down the field and in the endzone. After a Doss punt, FC fielded the punt (and even though I felt there was a block in the back on FC) the punt returner blasted into the endzone and it felt like the game was over at 20-0 with around 4 minutes to go 3rd Quarter.
Then QB Deon Pumphrey got the opportunity to make throws and throw he did. Doss has several good WRs on the edge especially #2 Jaren Boyd. Add D1 WR Traynor on the other side and this is a tough team to match up with.
Also consider Doss converted 2 CRITICAL 4th downs in the 4th Quarter. On their second scoring drive it was 4th and about 4 at mid-field and the WR made a super tip catch and ran to the 2. AND the Last scoring drive of the game was 4th and goal from the 6 with about 12 seconds left.
SUPER GAME! HUGE district win for Doss. They should win their 4th District title EVER!! Congrats @coachhawk and players and fans!
