Ruckert is rated just slightly better than Hausmann was when he left Moeller. As for Mayer I would appreciate the offer from the Buckeyes but IMO they still don't utilize the TE hardly at all frankly (just 36 completions all year) and Penn St. and ND are much better options for his skillset and usage but wherever he feels comfortable is all that matters as he will get a great education and connections after football if in fact he's not playing on Sundays.
Unless he physically canít play this season Ruckert is a 3 and done kid. I hope Mayer comes back up and hangs out with him.

And Paul Hladon did go to Princeton. Cov Cath has actually had a small handful of guys play significant roles on Ivy League football teams, including Hunter Ziegelmeyer who is currently playing for Dartmouth.

I remember Kurt Barber from Paducah who went to USC and played at least one season with the Jets. Unbelievable player ...
My cousin........ was on the first flight he could be on to get back here when he heard about the wreck........ AMAZING football player, a genius, and the best friend you could ever ask for.

I still remember watching a video of him catching a touchdown pass at Columbia (he ran pretty far if I remember correctly)......

I gotta see if my aunt and uncle or cousins still have that VHS tape!

The world needs more people like him

I also see Spivey a lot still....... normally when I'm working out at Five Seasons. Another good guy

He did but can you name another? Even OJ was underutilized. They seemed to use him once in a while just to give the other teams something to think about. Of course with their running game and recent wide receivers you can't really blame them.

I can't name another one, and he was very underutilized.

Do you think that's relevant to how Alabama uses their TE's today under Saban? I think there's been a little bit of change in 40 years.

That's my only concern if a TE wants to consider Alabama. Of course, playing for championships most years and getting drafted by the NFL would certainly ease the disappointment of not seeing too many passes thrown their way.

I hope he goes to the SEC or the Big Ten, that way I would have the chance to watch him on TV almost every week.

I have to believe Penn St. has a legitimate shot. The way they utilized Gesicki over the last 2 years has to be very attractive. ND has done a good job with their TE's as well but I really like PSU use of the position. Not many schools have a TE with nearly 60 receptions not to mention it's a position of need for them over the next couple of years.

I don't care if it has been 40 years, @colonel-fan made my day by mentioning Ozzie Newsome! One of my favorite players from the era when I went from being more than a fan to a fanatic. The great Wizzard of Oz was actually a WR in college and was switched to TE in the NFL by Cleveland Head Coach, Sam Rutigliano. Rutigliano told Ozzie he would be a good WR but if he would make the switch to TE he may be the greatest TE ever. The idea of switching Newsome to TE was spawned in Ozzie's last season. Rutigliano sent a scout to Alabama to answer one question, "Does Ozzie have a big butt?" The scout, Rich Kotite came back with the shortest scouting report in history, "Yes, he's got a big butt." Rutigliano knew that if he had large hind quarters his 6-2 frame would fill out to about 235 and they could move him to the tight end position. This began the evolution among TEs to more than a blocker who caught a few passes. The next year San Diego drafted Kellen Winslow and he joined Air-Coryell.

The switch resulted in a Hall-of-Fame career for Ozzie.

The NFL's tight-end revolution began with Browns' Ozzie Newsome, Chargers' Kellen Winslow | cleveland.com

    Sorry, a bit off-topic.

    Go! Michael Mayer!
