    Class 1A Championship: #1 Pikeville vs. #2 Paintsville Predictions/Updates

Pikeville remains undefeated on the season at 13-0. Pikeville hasnít been challenged since the Belfry and Paintsville game all season.

Paintsville comes in at 11-3 on the season with losses to Pikeville, Hazard, and Lexington Christian Academy. The Tigers are battle tested on the season with those losses coming to very good teams.

Who wins this rematch for the Class 1A State Championship? Pikeville has been a machine since the Belfry win. Paintsville also isnít playing to shabby themselves either, just had some closer games than what Pikeville has had.

I'll say like I did earlier with the Somerset vs. LCA game. Hard to beat a good team twice. I like Paintsville as a upset pick, but hard to go against Pikeville.

Pikeville's offense has been on a tear over the last couple of months. The early season struggles against Paintsville and Raceland seem like a distant memory.

I'm leaning toward Pikeville by a much more convincing score than the first time they met... but this is a rivalry game, and the heightened intensity and familiarity that come with that should not be casually cast aside. I'm choosing the Panthers, but the degree of difficulty is hard to pin down.

Nobody is going to be surprised if Pikeville wins. It will really come down to if Paintsville can control the LOS like they have the past 3 weeks. Their OLine play has been dominant. However, so has Pikeville’s defense. Paintsville has to play mistake free and then probably get some help from Pikeville to pull this one off.

Never going to make excuses and this isn’t one, just stating the facts, Paintsville is banged up; but we are going to show up and leave it out on the field! Go Tigers.

Who was the player that suffered the bad leg injury in the KCD game?

Grant Ray- Center. Injured it doing a chest bump after a TD. Just a freak accident.

That is a blow. Center is one position you do not want to have to replace at this point in the season. A shame for a senior to miss out on the game that would be the highlight of his career. Best wishes to him.

Didn’t realize it was the center. Noticed some shaky snaps last night. Didn’t matter against KCD but could be costly against Pikeville. Of course they’ll have a week to get ready.

I like Pikeville in this one. I think the Panthers have the much better resume coming in.

I certainly understand why you picked Pikeville, they are a complete team. Only advantage, if it even is an advantage, is that Pikeville hasn’t played a game since Belfry (9-20-19) that they have had to break a sweat in the 4th quarter. That is mainly because they are that good and partly due to weak competition/ no competition. (Jenkins cancelled their season).

    I hear you.

These days I don't have very strong rooting interests for one team over the other but in this case I would rather see Paintsville win the game because I like State Championships to get spread around a little bit and to their credit the Panthers have plenty of them.

Pikeville has 4. Their fans have been gracious enough to remind me of that fact, several times.

As a Beechwood grad Pikeville has put it to us on many occasions either in the finals or the semi-finals and as I reflect back I am glad they are and have been that good.

Pikeville is the class of 1A so I’m picking them.
