Can someone convince me that CAL isn't the best team in the state?

Well the fact that a Mayfield fan started this thread should at least put this question into some perspective. This wasn't a CAL fan saying, "We are the best." This was a possible future opponents fan base trying to pump them up.

Per calpreps.com, here is CAL's record versus Wireman's schedule but these are all neutral field scores:

    Aug 17, 18 Belfry ... WIN 34-24
    Aug 24, 18 Male ... LOSS 21-24
    Aug 31, 18 Boyle County ... LOSS 24-28
    Sep 7, 18 Johnson Central ... LOSS 28-30
    Sep 14, 18 Covington Catholic ... LOSS 17-34
    Sep 28, 18 Beechwood ... WIN 31-21
    Oct 5, 18 Desales ... WIN 27-12
    Oct 12, 18 Shawnee ... WIN 62-0
    Oct 19, 18 Washington County ... WIN 50-3
    Oct 26, 18 Trinity ... WIN 28-21

    Final record 6-4

I am not sure I agree with all these individual results, but that record is probably pretty close to what their record would be. Personally, I think Male, Trinity and Covington Catholic are very likely losses. Then I see at least one loss from Belfry, Boyle, Johnson Central and Beechwood.

I just feel like they have flown under the radar this year. And I was wondering what other people's reasoning was for not really mentioning them as much as a Boyle County or South Warren etc. It was just a curiosity post. They just, to me, seem to be on par with all the teams that everyone says are the best.

I’m in total agreement with you. I didn’t start this thread. I am just amazed how much everyone knows about CAL football this year. But just to be clear you aren’t including U of L in you list are you. I would have to argue that one. LOL

If you feel they would be 10-0 or even 9-1, then they are probably the best team in the state.
You forgot to add Alabama and Ohio State

However, at this point, CAL's schedule has been so weak there is no way to know if CAL is even in the discussion.

Good point. CAL's SOS is one of the lowest of the top 25 teams in the state. However, it should be noted that Mayfield's SOS is about the same as CAL's.
