W Football, what do you think some of the keys are for Russellville?

I was wrong about the Murray game....Butler County gave Russellville a much closer game than Murray. 50-42 shoot out.

    Mac,

What do you think are some of the keys for Franklin against Russellville?

Russellville is used to putting lots and lots of points on the board. FS needs to stay ahead of the chains. Pound the ground game and end drives with scores. Nothing frustrates a team like Russellville like not being able to do what they do best which is have offensive success. Hard to do if you don't have the ball.

In last year's game FS took the opening drive and scored in 11 plays. RHS reached the FS 45 and fumbled. Seven plays later FS scored again (first play of the second quarter) to make it 14-0. You could almost feel the panic set in on the Panthers.

FS did not attempt a pass the entire game. It was a short game and FS won 34-12.

    Great Insight!

I just get the feeling that if Franklin doesn't turn it over then it is Franklins game to lose. I think Russellville is good but they should get worn down by a front-running 4A squad.

This was the last season of a rather "rough" patch for Mayfield. After being blown out by Ft. Campbell the previous week, the Cardinals made a 4th quarter rally to break the hearts of the Bomber fans who thought they had their first win against Mayfield. They are still waiting for that first win today.

The most important thing for the panthers is to focus on taking care of the football. They are playing a lot of games right now where they can score from anywhere on the field and when you run into a franklin Simpson, you will have to put drives together and protect the ball. Running the wing t, fumbling can become an issue.

After protection of the football I would say keeping everyone healthy. With the amount of kids that go both ways for the panthers, if anybody goes down it could be a huge blow.

Russellville for the past 10 years have fielded pretty talented teams. They never can seem to win the big game. 09 and 10 narrow loses to pudacah tilghman where they lead by double digits and lose narrowly. After that it was mayfield, had 2-3 chances to beat them and couldn't take advantage (no disrespect to mayfield, I know how good they were)

Yes, they made the semi finals last year but mayfield is now gone. Beechwood looks to be feeling those shoes.

Franklin Simpson is a big game in the eyes of everyone. Two 9-0 teams, how could it not be? I just hope this is the year they take advantage and win a "big game". It would be huge going into the playoffs. Last thing they need is to get blown out and go into the playoffs with that type of momentum.

    Really, Really Well Said WFootball!

Russellville doesn't have to win that game but they need to win that game more than Franklin does ! As you say turnovers and injuries would be very costly. In the second half I think Russellville will need a turnover or 2 to win. But I think staying close would have some value as well. If they get blown out it will hurt much worse IMO.

    Spin,
When I said I have mixed feelings about the young man participating it was from a chemistry standpoint. I didn't know he had been practicing with them all this time. I have nothing to do with the process that's kept him out of the lineup up until then.

BUT I guess you have to go with the best guys available and if he's been around the team all this time, I suppose it should be a big deal as long as the guys that have been playing get some snaps too!
