Class 1A

The story last week was a few of the teams outside of the usual suspects. Kentucky Country Day rallied to get a huge District victory over Louisville Holy Cross and now take the driver's seat position in the race to November. Lynn Camp kept their undefeated hopes alive by making short work of Pineville. The Wildcats now only have Harlan standing in their way of a monster showdown with Williamsburg looming. Hazard and Paintsville felt little resistance this past week and will draw each other in a non-district game that should still have major ramifications.

1. Beechwood at Ludlow
2. Raceland at Fairview
3. Pikeville at Phelps
4. Hazard vs. #5 Paintsville
5. Paintsville at #4 Hazard
6. Campbellsville at Bethlehem
7. Crittenden County vs. Fulton County
8. Williamsburg at Pineville
9. Lynn Camp at Harlan
10. Kentucky Country Day vs. Rock Creek Academy (IN)

Class 2A

In a game where defense was expected to rule the day, it was CAL who was able to show their firepower as the Centurions took the monster clash against DeSales. Somerset began a pivotal two-game stretch as they chase a district title by using a little defense of their own to outlast Danville by the exact same score as CAL/Desales. The Jumpers now welcome Lexington Christian Academy with the opportunity to secure the hardware. Elsewhere, two huge games should also fill-in the playoff puzzle pieces on the Eastern side. Shelby Valley and Leslie County will face each other for District 8 and a pair of Top 10 teams meet as Lloyd and Newport Central Catholic renew their dislike of one another.

1. Mayfield at Ballard Memorial
2. Christian Academy of Louisville vs. Shawnee
3. DeSales vs. Washington County
4. Owensboro Catholic vs. Todd County Central
5. Somerset vs. #7 Lexington Christian
6. Glasgow at Monroe County
7. Lexington Christian at #5 Somerset
8. Lloyd vs. #10 Newport Central Catholic
9. Danville at Middlesboro
10. Newport Central Catholic at #8 Lloyd

Class 3A

The drama came late in the two biggest games last week in Class 3A. Belfry seemed to have Cabell Midland buried and in the grave before letting the largest school in West Virginia fight back to make the margin closer than it should be with two very late scores. Lexington Catholic and Western Hills had a similar final margin, but this was a game that was back and forth until the end, with the Knights surviving. Belfry will step back to Kentucky competition with a chance to win another district title against Lawrence County. Lexington Catholic will challenge Boyle County in a much anticipated clash. Bell County kept their undefeated season and unwavering momentum as they obliterated Clay County. The Bobcats travel to Redhound Country for a game sure to garner statewide attention.

1. Boyle County at #5 Lexington Catholic
2. Corbin vs. #7 Bell County
3. Central at Bardstown
4. Belfry at Lawrence County
5. Lexington Catholic vs. #1 Boyle County
6. Caldwell County at Fort Campbell
7. Bell County at #2 Corbin
8. Paducah Tilghman at Union County
9. Elizabethtown at Larue County
10. Western Hills at Garrard County

Class 4A

Forgive Logan County if they are "defensive" about their narrow win over Hopkinsville. The boys from Russellville just keep putting tallies in the win column and used a nasty effort from their defense to survive the Tigers and set up another huge clash against a stout Madisonville squad. Knox Central may have another tough draw this week as they welcome fellow ranked Franklin County, but the big win they needed came last week when they outlasted Wayne County. If you want a game that may be a bit off the radar, but should still be great competition from two teams capable of making playoff pushes, check out the Warren East and Allen County-Scottsville game. The loser will have to take their playoff path to the highway.

1. Johnson Central at Rowan County
2. Franklin Simpson at Warren Central
3. Ashland at Greenup County
4. Knox Central at #7 Franklin County
5. Logan County vs. #10 Madisonville-North Hopkins
6. Wayne County vs. Russell County
7. Franklin County vs. #4 Knox Central
8. Moore -- OPEN
9. Taylor County vs. Mercer County
10. Madisonville-North Hopkins at #5 Logan County

Class 5A

The rankings saw little reason to shift as the nine teams in the Top 10 who took the field all secured victories. Covington Catholic finally saw a 4th quarter where their starters had to plug in to what was happening on the field, but the Colonels keep their winning streak alive heading into the huge clash for NKY supremacy against Highlands. South Warren also got a challenge but survived their foe from the Nashville Metro area with a shutout win. Bowling Green versus Warren Central may fool some folks expecting a pair of teams from the Corvette City to re-new their rivalry, but this particular Warren Central is from Indiana and a load to deal with. Keep an eye on Mount Sterling, as Anderson County vs. Montgomery County is a big game for a #1 seed.

1. Covington Catholic at #6 Highlands
2. Bowling Green at Warren Central (IN)
3. South Warren -- OPEN
4. South Oldham at Bullitt Central
5. Southwestern vs. Lincoln County
6. Highlands vs. #1 Covington Catholic
7. Anderson County at Montgomery County
8. Owensboro vs. Apollo
9. Oldham County vs. Nelson County
10. Pulaski County at South Laurel

Class 6A

Frederick Douglass was facing a game where respect had to be earned and not given. The Broncos passed with flying colors by taking care of business against Scott County and, in the process, finally validated themselves as a legit title threat in many eyes. Saint Xavier needed to secure a win against Manual to prove they were as good as advertised. The Tigers may not have won in pretty fashion, but they won convincingly enough that Male needs to takes notice. The battle of these two traditional heavyweights will be the focus of Louisville. Simon Kenton and Campbell County will also battle this week to see who the prize delegate from the Northern Kentucky area will be. The Camels are on the edge of the Top 10 and would love to take the Pioneers' spot.

1. Male vs. #3 Saint Xavier
2. Frederick Douglass -- OPEN
3. Saint Xavier at #1 Male
4. Butler at Eastern
5. Trinity at Seneca
6. Henry Clay vs. Bryan Station
7. Scott County vs. Dunbar
8. Manual vs. Pleasure Ridge Park
9. Ballard vs. Jeffersontown
