BluegrassPreps Class 6A Football Rankings (9/24) Discussion

    Class 6A

Butler did what no one else could against Male this year. No, they did not beat the Bulldogs, no one might be able to do that, but they did at least hit double figures on the scoreboard. Butler must get back to the drawing board in a hurry as Manual will be no easy rebound. Trinity finally broke their 2018 maiden with a blowout win over Jeffersontown. The Shamrocks will now set their sights on a St. Xavier team who is equally eager to prove they are still relevant in the 6A title picture this year. Simon Kenton tasted defeat for the first time and now must dig deep for their Northern Kentucky pride as 1A Beechwood is a team they do not want to lose to. North Hardin justified their ranking debut by nearly pulling a massive statement win against 3A's #1 team. After coming up just short, they will now adjust their sights a class down and try to beat 2A's top team.

    1. Male at Pleasure Ridge Park
    2. Scott County vs. Henry Clay
    3. Frederick Douglass at Bryan Station
    4. Trinity vs. #5 Saint Xavier
    5. Saint Xavier vs. #4 Trinity
    6. Butler at #7 Manual
    7. Manual vs. #6 Butler
    8. Simon Kenton vs. 1A #1 Beechwood
    9. Ballard vs. Seneca
    10. North Hardin vs. 2A #1 DeSales

Looks good! I’m very surprised to be the first to comment though.

Not a believer of Manual at #7. I watched them scrimmage Tates Creek and the varsity finished 13-7 TC. That was before the Manual qb got hurt and they were still one dimensional and not very athletic. TC threw the ball very well against them and IMO was the better looking team. I know, I know, it was a scrimmage but you can still see what a team is working with.

I am with you. Everything below #6 in this ranking is suspect. If we did a statewide ranking, I don't think any 6A school outside the top 6 makes the top 25 in the state. That means there are 19 other teams in lower classes better than the #7 team in 6A and there are 19 or more other teams in lower classes better than Manual et al.

Manual has been propped up by a weak schedule and rest of 6A being weak. This Friday will show if Manual is a pretender or a contender. I think Butler will roll them though.

The Ballard win doesn't look too bad after the Bruins played Boyle close and beat Central. I do agree, though, that Butler should defeat them.

Ballard was better when they played so definitely best win. Ballard right now is not very good, after only beating a very bad Eastern team by 5. Central pretty much dominated them defensively. Manual will lose against Butler, Male, and St. X.

Anyone know how long the starting quarterback will be out for? The back up started for Ballard last game.

In general I agree with you. There are clearly teams in other classes that can compete with the top 6A schools. Line play and depth usually separates the big boys from the smaller schools. I think the crazy thing is where do you draw the line in the top ten? Male won at Butler by 3 scores and at Trinity by 2 scores.

I understand the love for Douglass but their bubble will burst soon enough.

Manual and Butler get to play this week and I think Butler rolls.

I am assuming you think Scott County will burst Douglas's bubble? In my opinion it will be the other way around. I just can't see SC playing with FD. It's not just that FD is bigger stronger and faster I just can't find one advantage that goes to SC. The only thing that gives SC a chance in my opinion is their scheme and discipline but I just don't think it will be enough this year. All that being said, I have thought the same thing before about SC and they have proved me wrong. Now that I have talked in a circle I'll just say I hope it's a good game.

Faster? Maybe. Bigger? I don't think so. Scott County's offensive and Defensive Line is massive. Douglass has yet to see anyone who is going to line up and try and punch you straight in the mouth. I believe Douglass will really struggle responding to SC's physicality. Typically, running/duel threat QBs have given SC a lot of trouble in the past. Pocket passers not as much (Moeller's QB vs La Salle's QB). I think this game will come to prove that Douglass is not as high as everyone is selling them to be. Going from playing teams like Wayne, Paintsville, Tates Creek, Station and Dunbar to a team like Scott County is going to be very difficult for the Broncos. All that being said, the first game between the two will only determine who will have homefield advantage in the playoff game.

One obvious advantage for Scott County - they are battle tested. Douglass hasn't played anyone of significance yet. Scott County has 3 games under their belt against teams far superior to anyone Douglass has played.

I went back and looked at how Male’s senior class did as freshman and they went undefeated, so it makes sense that they are #1 with this senior class.
