BluegrassPreps Class 3A Football Rankings (9/10) Discussion

    Class 3A

Boyle County coasted past 4A Wayne County, but the bigger statement for the Rebels may have been their earlier season win over 6A Ballard. The Bruins handed Central their first loss. The Yellowjackets need to re-calibrate in a hurry as St. Xavier is next on the agenda. Belfry made short work of a ranked 2A Newport Central Catholic, but expect the Pirates to get a much stiffer test when they go down a class further against a very good 1A Pikeville team. Lexington Catholic felt little resistance from 2A Lexington Christian, but they will also ramp up against a Highlands team that has seemingly figured out all the woes that plagued them in 20017.

    1. Boyle County vs. 4A Collins
    2. Corbin -- OPEN
    3. Central at 6A #4 St. Xavier
    4. Belfry at 1A #2 Pikeville
    5. Lexington Catholic vs. 5A #6 Highlands
    6. Casey County vs. 6A Jeffersontown
    7. Caldwell County vs. 6A Henderson County
    8. Bell County vs. 5A Whitley County
    9. Paducah Tilghman vs. 4A #7 Hopkinsville
    10. Elizabethtown at Thomas Nelson

The rankings look great. Can't really debate the rankings for now. Maybe the bottom half.

We are going to know a little more about 3A this week as they play ranked out-of-3A teams.

Good point. Bell County just hasn't played anyone but they've looked really good in what they've done. Casey's wins over Campbellsville and Russell County are better than most people think. Caldwell County and Elizabethtown are probably better than their records but the schedules are tough and they've just not won. Paducah Tilghman is probably better than past year but it seems like over the last several seasons we've inevitably seen the shoe drop on the Tornado. I'm not sure if that will happen this year.

Central, Lexington Catholic, and Caldwell County all have tough games this week. Originally I thought Hopkinsville would be a tough game for Paducah Tilghman but now that the QB for Hopkinsville is out I think Tilghman wins easily. Maybe we’ll learn something this week in 3A. The rankings look pretty good this week.

Casey County vs. Jeffersontown is kind of an unusual matchup, especially at this time of the year

I could see it as a Bowl Game, but you don't see a Louisville 6A school pack up and travel to rural Kentucky in the heart of the season often.

Two year contract. Casey coach Steve Stonebraker coached one year at Jeffersontown before coming back to Liberty. I'd say that is the connection.

    That would explain it...

I like seeing these "Collision of world" type of games.

Moore is coming to Johnson Central this week after JC travelled to Moore last year. The Corbin/Mayfield series has been fun as well.

Completely unrelated but didn't the great Chuck Smith either play or coach at Jeffersontown at one time?

Played for J-Town if memory serves. Then again I am very forgetful.

Chuck Smith didn't ever play football, he was only waiting until he was old enough to legally coach.

I believe you're correct! Again, completely off subject but I wonder what other great coaches/players they have produced.

Paducah is several spots too low in my opinion.

I agree they are a spot or two low but they haven’t beaten a team with a winning record yet.

A win this week probably gets them a little more respect but ultimately the game with Caldwell County next week is the standard by which we'll judge Tilghman. The Tornado haven't been able to play with Caldwell of late but if they're as good as we think they probably are, then a win in that game should push them higher up the chart.
