Bobby Deramus was a NG also and a better one than his little brother.

No doubt the best backfield in E. Ky. history. The fullback was Chad Thornsbury I believe. Belfry fans can argue all they want but as good as Howard and Jones were, they weren't as good as that Pikeville backfield, no how, no way.

I don't know their numbers, I'm not an avid Belfry fan, but they did post the 3rd best rushing total in state history so I would say their numbers are as good or better than the total Deramus & Hackney put up.

I thought that was who the FB was but I wasnt sure. Bobby was alot better than eddie on D, But eddie was a load as a back not saying he was better than bobby but very few people if any on this thread had to tackle eddie in practice every day for 2 years. Well I tried to tackle him anyway LOL! It was like trying to tackle a locomotive.

[QUOTE=fanofkyfootball]Any career stats on West from Lawrence?[/QUOTE
When it comes to stats nobody was better than Mike West overall from Eastern KY:
7,725 yards carrear (3rd all time in the state)
2,727 yards in a season (10th all time)
12.99 yards per carry (4th all time and that is a scary stat!)
    93 rushing TD's (7th all time)
212.5 yards per game (8th all time)
414 yards in one game rushing (9th all time and it was against Belfry!)
584 pts total (10th all time)
    95 TD's overall (8th all time)
Those numbers will stack up to anybody! His carrear speaks for itself without blinders of people being loyal to their school.

    Are you serious??

Beach was a great back but I think that there were some others from EKY in the past 20 years that were better than him in High School. I think during High School West was better than Beach. Beach cramped up a lot.

Beach was the better overall back, and played on a team that wasn't as good as West's. If you put Beach on Lawrence's team he probably wins Mr. Football

Pikeville had a great run in that era with some super teams and Hackney & Deramus were indeed tremendous players (I thought Deramus was a better defensive player) but the reason they didnt play some complete games was because their competition was very, very weak in single A (until some of their later playoff games maybe). Thats just the way it was - not their fault obviously. But the Ashland backfield did actually set the National Record and won the AAA championship along the way so I find it difficult to rely on your shoulda, coulda, woulda to prove your opinion.

Nothing wrong with supporting one's favorites though.

Looks like Im carrying the old school side of this discussion because I want to throw in a great backfield from our arch rivals at Boyd County - Terry Keelin & Rob Chaney with uhmm.. Delviesis? and ....
HELP me out county fans - my memory is fading on your "last" great team.

Yes they did play some weak teams but they also played some great ones in bigger classes. Henry Clay who won their district in 4a and and Belfry who was 3rd in the state in 3a that year no to mention the traditional powerhouses in 1a(Pikeville had to play Beechwood just to get out of their region then). They did the same to these teams as the did to the weaker teams meaning they run all over them. They beat henry clay by two touchdowns and slaughtered belfry at belfry. They also whipped up on beechwood and every other 1a playoff team that got in their way. Plus I know that their are tough 3a and Ashland was great that year dont get me wrong. but im sure Ashland had a few cupcakes in their schedule as well.
