Any idea how many times they've played?

Manual and Male is at like 136.

I went to their first meeting last season and I think the announcer said 144 meetings. Don't quote me on that, but it wasn in that neighborhood.

During Highlands reign from 2007 to 2014 Cov Cath made a lot of those great teams roll up their sleeves and earn it in the 4th quarter there were a few blowouts but just a few. 2015 was very close back and forth game. It was kind of as Highlands trended downward and Cov Cath trended upward. Cov Cath dominated the past two years and Cov Cath is favored this year. I would actually say this taking turns of domination probably makes the rivalry more bitter.

For those that aren't really on either side, it just isn't all that enjoyable. The best that this rivalry ever had was 87-97. Other than that, you always know who is going to win.

I'd say Beechwood and NewCath has lost a bit of its magic as well. It had a great run from '00 to '14 w/ tons of great games, but Beechwood is pulling ahead by leaps right now. Hopefully NewCath can harness the talent they have this year and make it a great game again.

The last time I remember a stretch of competitive games from about 2001 through 2005.

Paris and Frankfort. It’s an old rivalry. It’s a shame they don’t play every year. I’m calling out both coaches To sign 50 year contract.

I think you can look at rivalries two ways, Historical and Recent/Playoff:

    Historical:
    Trinity vs. X
    Highlands vs. CovCath
    Danville vs. Boyle County
    Belfry vs. Pikeville
    Mayfield vs. Tilghman
    Male vs. Manual
    Ashland vs. Russell
    Bell County vs. Middlesboro

These rivalries will ebb and flow and sometimes they are more competitive than others, but by and large both programs have a STRONG tradition of success.

    Recent/Playoff:
    CAL vs. DeSales
    Belfry vs. Central
    Corbin vs. Bell County
    Johnson Central vs. Ashland
    Johnson Central vs. Belfry
    Boyle County vs. LexCath
    Male vs. Trinity
    X vs. Male
    Beechwood vs. Mayfield

These are what you call the "fun while they last" type of rivalries. These are either the product of alignment, parallel successes separated by Geography, or a program without the historical significance hitting their stride. I think in order for these to qualify there has to be some give and take, one side cannot dominate.

I would throw 2006 in there as well especially regular season game. Can still see Kurt Bovard catching the last second touchdown in the endzone.

I think Lex Cath vs Boyle has been one of the best since the late 1990's.

Not only did they share a District for most of the time, they often played a second game in the Playoffs. If memory serves a unique anomaly is that the regular season winner has always won the playoff rematch.

In '99 and '00 the only losses the Knights had in those two seasons were to Boyle County twice.

They only played once to my recollection from '01 to '06 and that was a start of the year Bowl Game where Lex Cath beat future AAA runner-up Boyle by a point.

It's been a story of streaks.

When reunited in AAA the Knights won four straight vs Boyle in '06 and '07. Rebels repaid that from '08 to '10 before LC won every matchup from '11 to '14 (?).

I would have to add this rivalry up there in the recent rivalry category.

One other playoff rivalry has to be Danville vs Mayfield. Though the Cards have won only one of their contests the uniqueness of meeting in the State Finals or Semi-Finals about 12 times since 1987 has made this a unique rivalry.
