Wayne Kraus, Jason Larch and John King do an excellent job for Trinity games. They have a pretty darn good stat guy as well...

Are they the ones that you hear if you listen to Trinity games over the internet? If so, I will have to respectfully disagree. There is far too much talking over each other, yelling, etc., At times, you can't tell what's going on. It sounds like amateur hour.

Listening to a Cov Cath game or two this year, their announcers are the same way.

Give me Dickie Martin every time. He is great at relaying the action on the field, the game situation (score, time remaining, timeouts, etc.), as well as "telling it like it is". He can definitely rub people the wrong way, but it is just as likely to be a Tomcat parent as someone from the visiting team. He tells you what he sees, and he doesn't "spin" it at all - he leaves that to whoever his color man is for the night. Another thing about Dickie Martin is this - he has had quite a few color men throughout the years, and he makes all of them sound good. When it comes to basketball, it's almost always Dirk Payne, but during football, they work a three man crew. That third man has ranged from ex-coaches to knowledgable fans, but whoever it is, Dickie makes 'em all sound good.

I also had the pleasure of listening to the Mason County crew of Phillip Haywood and Danny Weddle a couple of times this season, and was very impressed with them as well. They were excellent in their own right. The Royals can't complain about that duo.

One thing is certain - a good crew makes it easy to listen to a game on the radio, while a bad crew just makes you wish you could have made it to the game.

Steve Bertram is the Greatest, He floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee, oh my goodnes its the Greatest, Stevie!

This man is an awesome announcer and there is no else that matches up to his status, PERIOD! If you have ever listened to him then you would know what I am talking about. And if you attended any of the Legends games their first year, then you probably heard him doing their games on the PA. Just a great announcer, man and even better father!

I agree with the crews from Mayfield and Marshall County. The Marshall Co. pregame show is one of the better ones I've ever heard.

Two of the better broadcasters in western Kentucky have gotten out of the game so to speak. Mike Chadwell did Hopkinsville games for years and was very steady with his playcalling and knowledge of the game. Jeff Sisk does a good job for WHOP now.

Trigg County also had a good crew about 5-6 years ago. They also had a good pregame show and both were knowledgable. You can't listen to the current crew now because they ramble about everything except the game. It's painful to listen to.

I'm deeply hurt you don't think I at least matched up to Steve.

Then again when I was doing games you were ages 1 to 10.

I told this story before but it bears repeating.

Back in the mid to late 80's, Steve and I were both calling a basketball game at Danville high school for different stations. Steve was working without a color commentator and had a hand-held microphone on short mic stand on the table for crowd noise.

Steve is calling the action when all of a sudden he gets a surprised look on his face and turns around to see his young son speaking into the microphone: "Hey, Daddy, what's going on", or something to that effect. He quickly potted down the source and went on without missing a beat. We got a good laugh out of it afterwards but the look on Steve's face was priceless.

Also, if memory serves me correctly, Steve's first play by play was a basketball game while he was still in high school. The way that it was told to me, my dad turned the mic over to Steve for the second half or the 4th quarter or whatever it was. Soon thereafter, a fight broke out on the floor. From his crow's nest vantage point above the old Stanford High School gym, Steve went from play-by-play to blow-by-blow: "There's Cornelius with a right hook,....etc."

Ask him about that one, Rebelbred!
