I don't know about a forfeit, but Russell got beat last year by a much better Belfry team. Call it what you want, but they got beat by 22 points (3 TDs, a two-point conversation, & 2 PATs).

Bottom line.....Belfry whipped them across the board. Russell coudln't wait to get off the field last year.

Turnovers are usually caused by the defense... Belfry made less mistakes then Russell did last year. I think thats what the game will come down to this year as well. Belfry has a great running attack this year as well and can pass too if needed. I think the game will be close, and which ever team makes the most mistakes will be sitting at home dreaming of a state championship and what might have been. You can say all you want about cocky Belfry fans, Russell has them too, all teams do! All I can tell you is come friday night there will be two fan bases that will be extremely nervous and excited at the same time, because both fan bases know that the team across from them deserves to be there and wants it just as bad as the other.

I have seen the Belfry/Ironton game and I was not impressed with Belfry. Ironton was not as strong this year as they have been, and yet they beat Belfry. Running and gaining 7 yards a carry off tackle. Belfry lost the ball inthis game and it paid off for the Tigers. Dont tell me that fumbles do not change the game. We had 2 last year that were the turning point inthe game and you have to be crazy not to admit it. Lost 7 going in, lost 7 on the return. Belfry scored 7 off each. 28 point turn around, not to mention momentum.

Clark is doing a good job this year and so are all the backs. Passin game is THERE, 4 different backs to keep up with let alone the receivers now. We are not a one dimensional team that Belfry played lst year. Gross has moved on to bigger things in life and he is a great kid. Now you dont know where it is going to come from. You look at Kasey with 38 TD;s and say well he is half the scoring for Russell this year they are one dimensional. WRONG- He has scored so many times because he has flat knocked out defensive players on his way to the endzone. And if you think Kasey is the hardest hitter you have not been hit by the QB Tommy Brown.(Best hit I have seen).

Of course we can talk smack all day long but it comes down to FRIDAY. We talk but the kids play. We make excuses and the kids play. We do nothing but dream about football and our kids play. Every parent thinks their kid is the best and still they all play. For the fans of football who brag about 2 state championships back to back- congrats- your KIDS played great football. For the FANS who dream of being able to obtain the state title ring this year- hope that the KIDS play THEIR hearts out. THey Deserve it.

Let not go as far as leaving Russell fans out of the trophy engraving. Both sides have fans who have already named the winner and there is no two ways about it. That is what most fans do. They tend to add all the good things about the team together and refuse to believe that there are any weaknesses on their team. I am just glad that the actual players have their eyes open wider than the fans.

As fas as the turnovers, it was a factor but not the reason Belfry won. Did Belfry's player hitting the Russell boys not cause the turnovers? As far as that goes...Russell could have stopped Belfry from scoring on those 2 fumbles but failed to do so. So, in reality, Belfry earned those points, it wasn't given to them. Unless your saying that Russell didn't play any defense during those TD's.

But, as we all know, that was last year and has absolutely NOTHING to do with this coming Friday. There are 2 new groups of young men on this year's team and this is their year. Let's not try to deminish their accomplishments by rehashing the past.

This thread has been going very well and I for one would like to see it stay open until the game on Friday.

I find it very hard to believe that ANYONE except Sheldon Clark fans predicted you would lose to them. Sounds like cheap motivation to me.

Pal, I agree that this is a new year and 2 different teams that has nothing to do with this year's outcome. Except for a slight revenge factor that the kids from Russell might have. I am looking forward to a hard fought game between two tradition rich schools.
