The relative humididty right now is 45% which is a heat index of 115 though I think the humidity may have been a little higher earlier.

Now I have no idea which method the KHSAA uses but I think it is safe to say that what ever it is, the heat index is ABOVE the actual temperature.

Does anybody know the formula they use?

    I attached a link I found.

ummmm no offense ... but I am 100% confident that 3pt knows exactly what he is talking about. Especially since he was using an instrument that he is instructed to use by the KHSAA (more like required by the KHSAA to use that thing).

I would also say that he was probably standing on field turf in the hottest possible part of the field while he was taking the temperature/humidity reading ..... (wow ... I really thought that everyone knew who 3pt was by now).

Also--I was in very close proximity to Dixie tonight ..... and measured the temperature at my required intervals as well. It wasn't CLOSE to 100 degrees at 7:00 pm. No offense ... but it wasn't.

Also--what you failed to mention earlier as well--it may be staying warmer at night (than in the morning)--but I would be willing to bet that the temperature on the field turf is going to be MUCH WARMER in the morning--when the sun is coming up than it would be at night.

Also--here is a question (maybe i missed it) but are any of the other Kenton County schools playing at 9:00 am on Saturday morning?

I think this is going to be a great game and a great way to kick off the 2007 football season. Two teams have some players returning, it looks to be a good one.

Im going to take Beechwood by 3

OK you're right. I don't own a fourty-thousand dollar vehicle with a temperature sensor in it. You got me. Even if my thumb and finger are off by a degree or two it will still be over 100 heat index at 7:00.
With a relative humidity of 45 and a temp of 96 the heat index is 104.
It would have had to be 92*F at seven, 90.5*F at seven, and 89* at 8:00 by his calculations.

These figures as you say are not taken as you pointed out on a turf field that has BAKED all day in the sun.

It is 11:30 at night and it is only 86*F now.

Kenton County is under an EXCESSIVE heat warning along with three other counties.

I will be nice on this one so I don't get a PM from a moderator. It could easily been 100 degrees on your car temp but I can guarantee that it wasn't where I was. You can believe what you want but my numbers are fact and by the book according to KHSAA rules. Go to the KHSAA website click on sports medicine, then the heat thread and you will find the chart. Use the colored one to make things easy. This is the chart that all the H.S. should be using to report/record their heat index readings. It has to be done everyday starting July 15 thru Sept 15 along w/a contact/non-contact form. These forms are to be turned into the state.

I, nor any of the staff would ever risk the health of one of the student athletes. This heat stuff is dangerous and nothing to play w/. W/this said, the game should have been moved back to Fri night.

    Beechwood wins!

oooohhhhh a 40,000 vehicle with a 2.00 temperature sensor .... big deal. All i will say to this is if you are right ... then there are about 30 teams in the area that are wrong --- with devices that that KHSAA recommends--and is basing the health of 100's of high school athletes off of.

40,000 dollar vehicles that are made to suck gas from point a to point b don't have the most reliable temperature sensors in the world. Just like when you drive by a bank (which I did tonight) and the temperature said it was 125 degrees (no joke).

I think that I would rather trust a device that is specifically designed to read the temperature and humidity over you 40,000, gas guzzling automobile that has the scientific accuracy of a hillbilly without a shirt on .......

I never said you would or did. I simply asked how the temperature could be such and asked for the formula that was used.

I will assume that you know what your doing as I have always found you to be reputable and will take my problem up with the dealership.

It was 93 degrees w/RH of 42 making the heat index 96 at 7pm. I am done w/this, sorry, but I don't have to justify myself. If it were what you say it was there would not be any practice going on.

    Good luck Sat morning!

Thank you, I think!! No formula, the chart I referred to provided by the KHSAA.

I knew I should have bought a LEXUS! Cheap american made products. JK (I don't want to get the AAU on my back too.)

As is usual in situations such as this, you missunderstood my whole question. I never impuned any school, I simply asked a question. Go back and read and you will see where I have been trying to get someone to tell me how it is done. I never said I was an authority on the subject. It seems to me that you may need to check your own heat index.

    Just an additional question.

Since the KHSAA has guidelines for heat already in place that ALL teams adhere to, WHY DOES THE SUPERINTEDENT FEEL IT NECESSARY TO CHANGE THE GAME TO SATURDAY?

I'll be bold and say Dixie wins by double-digits on their way to finishing the 2007 season as the consensus second-best NKY team.

You may possibly be right about Dixie winning(doubt it) but finishing the season the #2 in NKY, I think that is stretching it just a little bit. We will find out in the morning before the roosters get up(dumb, dumber, dumbest)

Here is the thing ... the rest of the state is feeling very similar heat. You would think that the superintendent would be on the look out for all of the kids under his/her realm of control.

I understand the additional liability of having the home game ... however ... this one doesn't pass the smell test with me.

Thank goodness all of these kids are used to being up early--and playing as it gets warmer (as the day goes on).

Good luck to both teams--and hopefully everyone stays safe ... AND COOL!
