Dixie has a "big play" offense, but I just dont know if they can put together 10-12 play drives consistently. The passing attack looked strong against ncc and I think that could be BW's weakness (their secondary). I like Dixie in a close game. Beechwood is BIG but they best be ready to play 4 quarters if they expect to win this one.

I have heard that the game has been moved from 7:00 to 8:00. Does anyone know if this is a fact?

:fire: :fire: wont know till 3:00 today but I am sure it will, Tigers have had a strong week in practice, Davis and Mainello have been intense, watch for this tandem to disrupt Dixies timing on passing play.

    Tigers 24-21

    9:00 am??? :creepy:

Why not just push it back to an 8:30 or 9:00pm start?

I was told the Kenton Co Supt got involved. This was his decision since he knows sooo much about athletics. All last week teams dealt w/the heat index and had no problems so why now step in and play big shot. The coaches and medical staff no what they are doing and will make sure all involved are kept safe from the heat. If need be, the game would have been called if necessary and then played on Sat but at least try Friday night.

    I am just the messenger!!!

My guess is that situations like Henderson County last year make the guy err on the side of caution.

Are the JV teams playing Saturday? If so, couldn't the heat index possibly cause problems for that game, since it probably won't get started until noon? If they do play, wouldn't it be best to push the varsity start to 8:30pm on Friday and move the JV game up to 9:00am on Saturday?

JV would never play on the same day as varsity.

Not being a betting man(haha), the JV will more than likely play Mon night, time, who knows, or they just won't play at all. There is no way to play a JV game after the V game at noon.

If any doubt call your local Kenton Co Supt office.

Yeah, I didn't think that scenario out very well, did I?

Very poor decision ... obviously made by people who don't see the big picture here. (And no--I don't think that we should torture these kids by playing in such nasty heat).

However--you have 2 good teams--who are going to be evenly matched. What happens if this game runs long? Dixie is a passing team--that is going to draw this game OUT ... which means that this game is going to run into the HOTTEST TIME OF THE DAY.

For the life of me ... why not move it back ... so it gets COOLER as the game goes on INSTEAD OF HOTTER.

dumb, dumb, dumb ..... there is no other way to describe it.

I'd vote later Friday before Saturday morning but I would disagree that it hits the hottest part of the day. The game will end by noon. Still hot but not the hottest part of the day.

Even if it isn't the hottest time of the day (we can both have our own opinions) ... I think that I would be a little more worried about kids getting worn down as the game goes on---while the temperature is INCREASING.

At the very least ... if the game is played at night--the temperature is going to go down as the kids are becoming more fatigued.

I have been outside everyday for the past month .... at least the wind has been blowing at night (actually more like when the evening starts) ... which hasn't happened at all in the morning.

The dynamics of these decisions, while good intentioned, are not often thought through from start to finish.

I agree. At 10:30 this morning it was already 90, play it later at night, I don't care if you start it at 10 or 10:30 PM, it's much better, and cooler than you will get anytime during day light hours.

Here is my two cents. For the last several yrs dealing w/this heat index rule it is plain fact that by 7pm it starts cooling off to where you can practice in shld pads/helmets w/water breaks every 30 min. By 8pm it completely safe to be in full equipment. During the morning practice, in full pads, the team usually is done and off the field by 10:30-11:00 w/out any problems. By 11:30 there were several days where you wouldn't have been able to even go outside. Good pts made regarding the temp is rising as the day goes on and the temp drops later in the evening.

The game should have been changed to 8pm and if necessary start even later but guaranteed it would have been OK. Athletic decisions should be made by people involved w/athletics and not by people who make administrative decisions.

The more I think about it ... the more I am not worried. Because it will still be so freaking hot that early ... that there is a good chance that the heat index restrictions will kick in ... which will force it to a more "manageable" time at 8:30 pm or 9:00 pm at night.

I'm going to disagree on this point, 3 PT. There has to be someone who is ultimately in charge and that has to be the SUP. I'm not saying he made the correct call on this one but I am saying he should have the final say.
