It’s already been an exciting few weeks of high school football and it is only going to get better. Class 6A has caused many of us to scratch our heads early this season. The top teams leave us asking, “What the heck is going on here?”.

The #1 Trinity Shamrocks had started the season at 0-2, only losing by a total of 4 points in their two games. Trinity was on the road this week against ArchBishop Moeller (OH).Trinity jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead on a miscue and a blocked punt. Moeller answered and tied the game before the end of the 1st quarter. Trinity would have some miscues of their own and Moeller capitalized on them and put another score up before halftime to take the lead 21-14. The rest of the game was cut short in the 3rd quarter with 7:59 left as Mother Nature would come into play with heavy lighting and forcing the game to be called with Moeller on the verge of scoring again. The Shamrocks are now 0-3 on the season.

#2 Male came out and made quick work of 5A Doss in a 50-0 shut out win. Male has been very impressive, both offensively and defensively, only giving up 3 points in 3 games and scoring 138 points. Male will get the chance this week to show if they are real or fools gold.

#3 Scott County traveled up to Northern Kentucky to face the Highlands Bluebirds. Scott County came out with a 3 and out on the first series, but Highlands would as well. On the next series, Scott County would drive down and punch one in, going up 7-0. Highlands answered right back, returning the kickoff for a touchdown to tie the game at 7-7. Scott County then scored a couple more times, pushing the lead out to 28-7 before the game was called with 3 minutes left until halftime. Scott County put up over 200 yards while holding Highlands to just 22 yards.

#4 Saint Xavier had its home opener against Coach Wallace’s former team in the Bowling Green Purples. Saint Xavier had Keegan Sullivan back under center for this one and he did not disappoint. Sullivan threw for more than 200 yards and 2 touchdowns. But it would be the Bowling Green Purples who would come out on top in this contest, as Saint Xavier would fail to score in overtime with a missed field goal. Bowling Green would not have the same result as they hit their field goal to win the game 24-21.

#5 Frederick Douglass made quick work out of 1A Paintsville in a 57-7 win as Cameron Jones threw for over 280 yards and 3 touchdowns. Demarco Fishback accounted for all 3 of those plus 2 rushing touchdowns.
