6A #3 Scott County at 4A #1 Highlands (Predictions)
#3(6A) Scott County travels to Fort Thomas to take on #1(4A) Highlands this Friday night.
Scott County defeated Seneca 46-14 last week and Highlands hosted and defeated Boyle County 52-31 last week.
I'll take Scott County in the upset. I've heard nothing but good things about this team and its future. If they get film from last Friday the blueprint to beat Highlands is there. I'm not sold Highlands is as good as they are accustomed to being. I'm not sold they'll win 4A. They look vulnerable to me. Back to reality part one starts Friday.
Scott County by 3.

Sure looks to be a strong test for the Birds.

I haven't looked at Highlands schedule yet. Is this their toughest schedule in a while? Has to be two of their toughest first two weeks in a while isn't it?
Defintely should be a tougher test than last Friday.

If Scott County wins I would not consider it an upset but I will ask the question.

I started to put mild upset but decided against it. My feeling is that a majority(on BGP and abroad) would view Scott County winning at Highlands an upset despite their recent success and surging football program.

Thread started, we shall see.
One thing is for sure, both the Cardinal and Bird fans have to be really excited about the game Friday night because it should be a good one between two awesome programs.

Not sure Highlands is as strong as they have been the last few years but if Scott Cty wins I would probably call it a mild upset at best.

I have to hope that the HHS coaches saw the things we did last week and make some adjustments. HHS started to turn the tide last week when they got some bigger down linemen into the game on the defensive side. I know they want to work the platoon system, but sometimes you just don't have the depth at a smaller school. To be successful, anyone that platoons needs to perform also. I saw a lot of very small d-linemen in the game in the first half. I know they live on speed, but Boyle was pushing them back like they were playing a junior league team. I have to think HHS will make the right adjustments to account for that. Doesn't mean I think they will role, but I would hope we don't see the same strategy as last week. It didn't work!!! (until the second half)

I still believe Boyle's lack of execution to start the 2nd half hurt more than anything else but I do agree with everything else you said.

I don't recall their starting out the season with two tougher games. As to the overall schedule I'm not sure how it stacks up to previous years. I'm sure there are plenty of HHS historians who can shed light on how this schedule stacks up to others.

No doubt! The slow second half start definitely let the wind out of the sails.

I have heard that Scott County platoons, just like Highlands (and unlike Boyle County). With this in mind, I'd have to think that if Highlands' remarkable turnaround in the second half of the Boyle County game was due in part to wearing Boyle County down as the game progressed, it will be harder to do this against Scott County.
What kind of offense does Scott County have?

I was going to ask if Scott County platoons. I think the two platoon system is beneficial but it is overrated IMO. It didn't play a major outcome in last week's game. IMO.

Very good point jb. I think Highlands is still the favorite, but I feel that the only teams that have a chance against Highlands are the teams that platoon. I doubt any team that plays many players both ways will ever stand a chance against a team that can platoon.
When people argue about the numbers game in football, I see the ability to platoon as the only real argument, not the number of people in the school.

When Ryle beat Highlands two years ago, Ryle had five players playing both ways.

That was also the best Ryle team ever put on a field.

I see Scott County lining up, spreading Highlands out, and running right at them until they prove they can stop it.

Simple execution on Boyle County's part and it's a whole new conversation about the game last Friday. Simple execution. Not platooning.
