It shouldn't have been. Our execution breakdowns came in the first 6:00 of the second half. They had just had halftime. If they got fatigued after a 15-20 minute break then we are in a whole lot of trouble. Lack of mental focus caused the failure to properly execute. Lack of a consistent passing game ruined any attempt to come back once behind more than 10 points. Once down 35-24 we carried ourselves with a defeated attitude. That's what I saw. Was Highlands the fresher team in the 4th? Absolutely. But that isn't nor was it the reason Boyle lost.

Enrollment certainly helps you ability to platoon. If you just don't have the number of quality players, then platooning does no good. Obviously the more players you have, the more opportunity you have to develop quality players to fill all the roles. Doesn't mean all big schools have the ability to develop those quality players.

It better. This will be the most telling game of the season in terms of marked improvement. In the words of C. Wayne Perry, and I'm sure many others, "The most a team will improve is between weeks 1 and 2." Since word has it that SC lives b/n the tackles, I'd love to see another D Tackle in there. At worst I'd like to see a 3-5-3.

I tend to agree. I think the platooning was a little too broad, knowing some of the personel. If the reigns are drawn back a little, I think it can get much better very quick. That doesn't mean that Scott Co won't be able to run on us, but I do think Boyle exposed a few things that HHS will fix very quick. I know Boyle did not execute some things very well, but there was a completely different Dline in the game in the second half and Boyle was either tired or the guys in the games were shutting them down because they were not able to run against HHS in the second half at all. I know they went to a passing game later in the game to catch up, but even early in the 3rd, HHS had started to change the momentum of the run game.

I never saw Highlands stop Boyle from running. I saw Boyle have to abandon the run and have to throw and play catch up. Boyle ran down to the Highlands 25 yard line and dropped back to pass and fumbled on the sack. Execution. Scott County can run and throw and is overall better than Boyle on offense. Not as one dimensional. If Scott County can control the flow of the game it is their game for the taking.
I'm intrigued to see how much better the run defense can get. As Run To State said,"those holes are so big a truck could run through them." And most of the big yards were from a receiver who never played a down of running back in any game I have ever seen him play let alone a varsity game against a team of Highlands caliber. Scott County should have a field day.

PP92 - many people made similar predictions about Johnson Central's running game the past few years. JJ Jude was one of the best backs in KY history. Why will Scott County have more success than JC?

I think coaching takes over in this one along with home field advantage. I take Dale Mueller in this game. Highlands will win!
