Good point, although the dates are relevant here. They haven't played Dayton since 1977 and Bellevue since 1981, a time period in which both schools were at or near their peak, while Covington Catholic was just emerging. Similar with Lloyd Memorial, having not played since 1990.

On the flip side, they've regularly played Beechwood, and while the Beechies are always good, the CovCath teams were usually bigger and better.

I'm a non- CovCather but I believe they need to go back to this logo. Something about it is cool and way better looking than the current design

CWB can you clarify which helmet was used for the 1988 season? Gray face mask or blue?

Sorry about that...typo on my part. They were still in gray face masks in 1988.

How about that 9-1 team that did not make the playofffs? 1985

Those old days were tough! Lloyd Memorial (Sub-District 1) and Newport (Sub-District 2) made it, Covington Catholic and Highlands (7-4) missed out.

1981 team was 9-2. Best record for the Colonels for a long time and best under Coach Ray. Conner was the nemesis back then. Coaches new it. They pulled out all the stops to get the team ready. After pre-game warm up (game was at Conner), the team went into the locker room and found new blue pants waiting for every member of the team. Team went nuts! Unfortunately, not enough to overcome Conner that year. 2 losses were to Conner and NewCath.

Believe CovCath was 9-0 heading into the season finale loss to the Juggs.
