From the 1972 Yearbook (care of @Runcible Owl)

    A Memorial Award

"Keith Stowers was a great defensive end, and a tremendous person, who wore number 74 on his back during his playing days at Cov Cath. He played football as he lived, with a great desire to get ahead and be the best. He met his death early in life, at only 17, but his name will always be remembered at CCH. A remembrance of him is the Keith Stowers Memorial, an award given to the one outstanding defensive player who meets these expectations. A man who shows a tremendous ability in academics and strives towards brotherhood. Five are nominated by their fellow football players, and one is then chosen. The first man to win the award was senior tackle Jim VonHolle. He should be proud, it is a real honor."

CovCath JV did indeed play games at Ludlow in 1966 but the Varsity played at Covington Holmes in the first varsity season in 1967.

No the 1967 First Varsity season didn't include HHS on the schedule, to the best of my memory.

As I overlook the Pacific ocean eating dungeness crab, and just caught halibut, I have to say I like the 67 logo better. :-) totally enjoying the dead period in the Northwest

As a Highlands fan, I will say this thread has been very cool to follow. Keep the stories coming. The Keith Stowers story is so sad...

The first CovCath-Highlands game was in 1968. A 14-0 CovCath loss.

    RUDY TASSINI

    1969 - 1972
    15-25 (37.5 Winning %)

Coach Tassini came to Covington Catholic from Archbishop McNicholas High School in Cincinnati. His first season - as the Colonels' 3rd head football coach - he led Cov Cath to posting their third straight winning record, going 8-2 in the 1969 season. The following three years the Colonels went 3-7, 2-8, and 2-8, respectively. Coach Tassini left Covington Catholic and went on to coach defense at Lloyd Memorial High School. He eventually took over as the Juggernauts' head coach in 1987, and stayed on at Lloyd until his retirement following the 1999 season.
