I'd love to see the Cats pull this one out, but Tates Creek should have too much size for Ashland up front. And, I agree with ATLCat, Workman connecting with Beerman will give the Cats fits all night. TC by 3 TDs.

Some of this dialogue is a good reminder of how little some folks know about the things they speak of. Though I do suspect they actually believe what they are saying because they say it so matter of factly.

Back to the thread, I think Ashland wins this one in a barn burner. 41-35.

I hope Ashland wins but Tates Creek is better than either Raceland or George Washington, and both of those teams own wins over the Tomcats already. TC should beat Ashland by 2 or 3 touchdowns.

I do. After their season was over in 2012 East Ridge decided to withdraw from district play the following year. That left an open date for everyone in Belfry's district.

After verbally agreeing to continue the series, Coach Hart sent word to Belfry in November that he wasn't going to honor that commitment so that Ashland could play "somebody not as good as Belfry". That turned out to be Sheldon Clark.

That 4 game series with Belfry was strongly in Ashland's favor. They had won 3 games (35-20 in 2012), (36-22 in 2010) and (22-20 in 2009). Belfry's lone win came in 2011 by a 7-6 score.

So Ashland picked up a struggling Sheldon Clark team, and beat them 50-8 in 2013. Then they lost to Johnson Central 42-7 in district play.

Would playing Belfry have helped them overcome a 35 point deficit against JC? Probably not. It would be hard to argue, though, that it wouldn't have done a whole lot more for them than the effortless win over Sheldon Clark.

I thought the reason to drop to a weaker opponent based on talent cycle was what I said. That is just my opinion. I don't have the basis of someone sending word to someone and someone else leaking the message and the someone else telling me. If I had that concrete I wouldn't have stated my opinion. Guess I was lucky and guessed right. Thanks.

Bottom line is every coaching staff has the right to schedule based on whatever factors they deem relevant. I may not agree with it, fans may not agree with it, it may not make sense to any of us. And that is fine because none of our opinions matter. I've picked at the Ashland fan base about it ever since, and I have enjoyed doing that , but in all honesty it doesn't involve me one iota.

I didn't realize Ashland was in such a talent void. The past couple of years seems like they had quite a bit of it to go around. Whatever their scheduling philosophy is, I hope it works out for them.

Belfry has taken the opposite approach, and it has worked out for them. One of the biggest factors in the Pirates being prepped for the post season has been their challenging schedule, IMO. They have taken some lumps, but they have learned a lot from those demanding matchups and it made them better.

Game day. I hope TC will bring a good crowd with them to Putnam Stadium tonight. Should have good football weather this evening. It will be a tough task beating this TC team, however with the injury to their qb, I think the Tomcats pull this one out in a close one.

    Ashland 28

    Tates Creek 21
