    4A #1 South Warren vs. 6A Apollo

Game 1 of the state title defense went exactly as hoped for the South Warren Spartans, who have now notched 16 straight wins overall, and 24 consecutive in the regular season, the latest, a 56-14 plastering of Monroe County. The reloaded defense proved as rigid as ever against the run, allowing only 15 on the ground, but did show some signs of inexperience in giving up a first quarter score, and over 100 yards through the air. They should find it much easier against Owensboro Apollo, which fell 42-36 to Muhlenberg County a week ago. Last year, South Warren took this game 42-6 on the road. Within the home confines, how bad does this get?

It will be as bad as South Warren wants it to be. Apollo is once again not very good to put it mildly. As an alumni, I hate what they have become. They had some pretty good teams durning the 90's. Not sure where it all went wrong.

Its rough times for Apollo football. The clock could run by the end of the first quarter in this one. Its a shame, because the middle school program always has a ton of talent. Unfortunately, most of that talent ends up at Catholic or OHS. Someone has to do a better job. Its been bad for far to long.

This game is over before it starts. Bad matchup for the Eagles.
