    2A #5 Somerset vs. 1A #2 Raceland

This is one of the biggest small school match-ups in the state this week. The Jumpers made the long trip to Raceland last year and returned home with a 16-13 win. Now it's Raceland's turn to hit the road. Outside of a nightmare half of football versus Beechwood, Somerset (5-1) has played lights out on defense. The Rams (5-1) crossed the Ohio River into enemy territory and knocked off top 5 ranked Portsmouth West, 27-15.

I'm going with Somerset in this one. Raceland is their homecoming game.

Raceland is coming off a big win vs. a very good OH. team. I don't like the fact that Raceland has to make that long bus ride and then get out and play a very strong Jumpers team but Somerset had to do that last season and won so it can be done. Raceland hopefully can return that favor. I look for Salmons to go with the strong ground and pound running of Lacks and Adkins plus utilize E. Cox as well as D. Atkins to try and get some big plays thru the air. Cox's first game was last week and imo he can add even more explosive offensive threats for the Rams. Having said that, I'm not sure if that will be enough vs. Somerset. I have all the respect in the world for the Jumpers program / tradition.
I'll have to think about this one some more before predicting it.

I think this one is a toss up. Somerset is banged up right now and I'm not sure if any of the injured will play with Danville coming up. Hopefully it is a competitive game that helps both teams down the road.
Any of the Ram faithful making the trip? As long as it isn't too chilly or raining I plan on being there. Like @oldrambler I have MS and the weather really bothers me at times.

Back to back tough road games for the Rams. This could pay off later in the year if Raceland finds itself in a hostile environment in November.

I think Heighton could make a huge difference again this week. Raceland got poor QB play last year during this stretch vs. Portsmouth West and Somerset. Jake didn't necessarily light it up last week, but he was very efficient and took care of the ball. As a result, the Rams avenged an L from last season. So far this year, he's completed 69% of his throws with 11 TDs and zero interceptions. If he plays up to his standard vs. Somerset, I think the Rams will return home happy.

The recent eligibility of Cox gives Raceland another weapon in the passing game. I don't if he's as fast as Gunnur, but he looks close.

I hate seeing that you suffer from M.S. M.S. is a terrible, crippling disease. I'll add you to my prayer list. I know about the M.S. / temp. problem but the hot weather really gets me, not the cold as much. I am completely disabled with primary progressive M.S., the most severe level and certainly wish you well in your M.S. battle.

Anyway, my apologies to the rest of the bgp'rs on this thread, I didn't mean to hi-jack the thread so back to the game.... I certainly wish that I could make it but as all of them, the Ram coaches and players know that I'm always with them regardless if I can physically be there or not. I guess that I'm the Rams invisible 12th man. As the game last season, I expect it to be a hard hitting high school football game between two tradition rich programs. I hope that the Rams can be competitive and make a good game of it. I think that they can and as is in most games, this one will be decided in the trenches. Regardless of who wins, I hope that both teams stay injury free.

Is this a must win for Raceland?

I think so. If the Rams believe they are better than last year and ready to win a title, they need to win this one.

I don’t believe this is a must win, but I do agree they need to win this game to show they are better than last years squad. But this is a substantial road trip and how they perform could tell us how they could perform playoff time.

I do not think it is a must win. Our District games are the must win games. Winning those 2 will put us at home for 3 playoff games before traveling to Pikeville for the Semifinals. Providing all of that plays out.
