I'm not a good research guy, so can someone please tell me..... of all of the teams who compete for a state title, how many did not make the playoffs this year? And...how do these results compare to last year when there were 4 classes? With 2 additional classes, that means that there are 64 more teams this year at the start of the tournament than last year. How many schools compete for the title (there are 192 in the playoffs, I assume)?

There lies the problem with the extra classes. I just looked at the brackets and couldn't believe how many 0-10 teams there were and also 1-9 teams. How embarrassing for the team and the KHSAA. Why don't they just let everyone in if the KHSAA is going to "water" down the tournament with the extra classes and teams. What a joke. They should eliminate the first round game and just let in the #1 and 2 teams. Oh well. I guess I should have gone into the trophy and ribbon making business a few years ago. Man I would be rich right now!

Can soemone please post again the link that shows which region hosts which region in the Regional/Emi Finals.....

Additionally, a link of all the district alignments would be appreciated as well.

I've looked the brackets over and I think I'm not really in favor of the new playoff system. While its admirable that almost every team now "makes" the playoffs, I don't care for it. What kind of playoff system do you have when an 0-10 team makes the playoffs? All that means is that it will be a 70-7 blowout in the first round and 4 quarters of opportunity for an injury that will destroy the winning team's chances in the next round.

I mean, are the players at the 0-10 and 1-9 teams tearing the schools down in celebration this week because they made the playoffs?

I like this system better than what we had before, more schools make more money and the kids get to play more ball. You also have the long shot, Cinderella scenario which crops up from time to time. Bottom line is , more ticket sales means more money for all sports!

Your bottom line is very true. And the schools are the ones that benefit, because unlike other states, the local schools get 100% of the playoff money before the final games.

If the playoff system is going to allow 0-10 teams make the post season, then they need to allow all teams into the post season, which would make the regular season almost meaningless except to decide playoff position. I know of at least one 5-5 team not in the playoffs due to being in six team district while 0-10 teams in four team districts in the same class make the playoffs. Granted that an 0-10 team is more then likely only going to play one game in the playoffs, but how do you justify to the young men on a team that goes 5-5 and not make the playoffs when they look at the brackets and see team after team at 0-10, 1-9, or 2-8 in the post season.

I will at worst, say this....more kids are getting to practice longer. I hope that this extra work improves the overall picture of football in KY.

You make a good point. This is one of the few positives to the new six class system.

One thing I don't like about the current set up, or the old one for that matter, is that the pairings in the larger class is always set up for an all Louisville final. Sure, St. X and Trinity are the class programs of 6A this season and they usually were of 4A in the old system. The other classes are set up by region, with the East vs. West final. The Louisville schools are usually going to win the largest class championship but I don't see any reason to assure that they do. You will never see a Pikeville / Hazard final.
