Why didn't Lee County play Dayton in this tourney? Looks like a competitive game.

I talked to someone close to the Lee County program and they gave me some info about why they are struggling this season but the future does look very promising for the Bobcats.

They're starting a young and inexperienced team of one senior, one sophomore and three freshmen. No one has quality varsity experience. The bench is all freshmen and a couple of seventh graders.
Their leading scorer from last year did not return to school this year and another starter moved to another county. A third starter is still in school but decided not to play basketball this year. So that's three guys that would have been starters and had experience for various reasons are not playing this season.

The team is young and rebuilding for the future. The fellow I spoke with said the coach told him that he knew before the season started that this was going to be a rough year but he's already seeing small improvements with his team. The games this year are like practice in that they are being utilized as teaching sessions, with the score not being that big of a concern. The coach thinks in a couple of years these youngsters will have Lee back in the mix of competitiveness in the district and region. They've also have a very talented middle school team, of which a few play as subs on the varsity. Things are a little tough right now on the varsity level but in the long run there will be a light at the end of the tunnel for the Bobcats.

I heard the same. He was their top player. I think he might have quit before the season ended last year.

Small enrollment schools, and my county school is one of those, will usually have good, average, and bad seasons in cycles. But losing three starters is a much bigger deal at a school like Lee County than it would be, for example, at a school such as Perry Central or the Laurel schools.

Nothing against the guy, I don't know him or anything but could the players be quitting because of the coach?

From what I've heard that is not the case. There's different reasons that each player decided not to play basketball but the coach is not the reason. I know a few details but I'm not going to discuss them here.
