I disagree with these rankings but something else to talk about at least.

Ouch, even I had to laugh at that one. I'm guessing you mean everything below Ballard, right.

Ok then, but I can't make em better without a little something to work with.

I was teasing with you a bit but there are some things that I really disagree with. Are these rankings based on numbers or opinions?

Like I said, I was laughing too.

The rankings are based purely on the numbers: scores, home-court advantage, and prior rankings only, no opinions.

For example, your No. 27 team lost 69-42 on their home court tonight to your No. 6 team. Knott Central should be higher than No. 6. Perry Central has a big win or two but they are not a top 30 team in my opinion. I also don't believe that Covington Catholic is No. 3. Hopkinsville is certainly not No. 12. Henderson County is too low. You have a 10-13 team at No. 16. Lafayette 24? How does Cordia rank so high when they've only played 8 games (they've actually played 10)?

Maybe I'm not understanding how things are calculated?

Perry also lost without Beverly, and while I don't think he makes up 27 points he makes it a much closer game throughout.

Dunbar at 16 is more than reasonable with how they've played recently. Haven't been healthy all year and are currently missing Sr. G P.J. Corio. Still managed to beat Manual by double digits in Louisville this past weekend.

    Agree on everything else though.

Without Beverly, I'm not sure they are a top 100 team. I watched KCC beat PCC pretty badly with Beverly a few weeks ago, though.

I don't think they're that far off, Cov Cath and. New Cath are pretty even. KCC should be higher than 6th but other than that it looks pretty good.

I think that the 8th region rankings look great. Almost exactly how I would rank them, although I would probably swap Anderson County and North Oldham.

(This is how the top 10 looks)

    1. Oldham County
    2. Collins
    3. Owen County
    4. Simon Kenton
    5. Shelby County
    6. Anderson County
    7. Grant County
    8. North Oldham
    9. Spencer County
    10. South Oldham

I appreciate all the comments, positive and negative. They help me to tweak things and to look for mistakes. I took a dig into a couple of the teams mentioned. The formatting in a post is hard, but I've started with #32 Cordia. The table below shows their opponent, the location of the game, the result and the point gain for Cordia (negative means they lost points).

    Opponent Location Result Pt Gain
    #85 Sheldon Clark away (L) 57 -65 -3.61
    #107 Hazard away (W) 66 -65 0.84
    #73 Webster County away (W) 56 -46 0.84
    #176 Nelson County at Webster County (W) 56 -41 -0.31
    #195 Hopkins County Central at Webster County (W) 56 -44 -0.41
    #238 Wolfe County away (W) 80 -58 -0.01
    #46 West Jessamine at Southwestern (W) 66 -56 2.09
    #1 Ballard home (L) 62 -77 -0.05

The two games that stand out are the 8 pt loss at #85 Sheldon Clark, and the 10 pt win against #46 West Jess on a neutral court. Most of the other games provided a very small correction, which tends to say they are close to the right spot. As for only having 8 games, the system tries to be agnostic to the number of games played. Obviously, it can't properly rank all teams after, say, two games, but 8 games is fairly reasonable, unless something crazy has happened, like losing a star player to injury - it would need some games to adjust in that case.

Ok, let's take a look at Knott County Central. Keeping in mind that we don't do out of state games, here is there record. The lack of schedule strength is the main problem. Knott is a great team, there is no arguing, but to get into the stratoshere, higher than #6, it is harder to get there with the schedule they have. The system makes it very difficult to get points against teams that have no chance to beat you - witness the 0.10 point gain even with a 42 point blow out against #190 Bracken County. This is as it should be. KCC has only played 3 games against top 50 opponents, and done very well, mind you. They could very well move even higher, because they just keep winning. In fact, there seems to be an injustice here in that they beat #3 CovCath and are still below them. However, justice is a human institution, and the computer has to take into account the entire body of work

    Opponent Location Result Point Gain
    207 Magoffin County away (W) 79 -26 0.58
    190 Bracken County home (W) 80 -38 0.10
    152 Breathitt County home (W) 93 -50 0.78
    166 June Buchanan away (W) 58 -27 0.16
    138 Pike County Central home (W) 87 -51 -0.05
    107 Hazard home (W) 65 -46 0.68
    245 Jenkins away (W) 85 -57 0.00
    3 Covington Catholic at Rowen County (W) 78 -66 3.66
    95 Muhlenberg County away (W) 56 -55 -1.25
    137 Harlan County home (W) 76 -53 0.21
    44 Clay County home (W) 56 -51 -0.37
    27 Perry County Central away (W) 56 -41 2.04
    113 Letcher County Central home (W) 71 -37 0.01
    198 Powell County away (W) 80 -49 -0.13
    166 June Buchanan home (W) 85 -36 0.12
    113 Letcher County Central away (W) 69 -45 -0.12
    152 Breathitt County away (W) 86 -45 0.29
    212 Belfry home (W) 94 -58 -0.10
