    1) The officiating seemed very suspect, both ways - walks, touch fouls, muggings, just seemed to me that there was no consistency as to what the stripes were going to call/not call last nite. And I totally agree with you TOG on the 'T' call on Carr. I think Trevor was actually going to dunk over the guy when the play was stopped

    2) The guards are very reluctant to shoot. Last nite even Riedinger passed up on some shots he would normally take. I thought initially coach maybe had told them not to shoot, but even he told Brett to take the shot after he passed up on one of them. I know we are still short on guards, but these guys have got to be more aggressive on offense.

    3) There was 'in-fighting' amongst the players last nite that I really had hoped not to see this year. I thought it would all be gone with last year, but it reared its ugly head last nite.

    4) Again, way too many bunnies missed last nite, and guys are not strong enough with the ball. How many times was it simply ripped from guys hands, even when we had two hands on it?

    5) We were way too lazy on the defensive end last nite - things were too easy for the eagles on many of their offensive posessions. Where was the help defense?

    6) Last nite there appeared to me to be no Senior leadership for the colonels. As each game passes, the Seniors are less and less vocal on the court and sidelines. Thelen was the only one who I noticed trying to get the team fired up. Not sure if this was partially due to the lack of Crazies there or not, but it would be nice to see some of the seniors really trying to fire up the troops.

    7) What happened to Robinson and Heimbrock?

    8) Rebounding? Where was it

9)Free Throw shooting - once again, all did poor, even Brett.

    10) Excitement on the bench - even when there was a good play, the guys on the bench show no emotion, no reactions/support to their team. They need to be supportive of each other

    11) Not to be all negative - I did see some positives last nite:
    a) Thelen hit some of those mid range jumpers, which should help him when guys come out to guard him. I also liked him trying to rally the guys, esp at halftime
    b) Connelly played very well, kept his head in the game, took his shot when open, played solid defense and made the best block I have seen all year.
    c) Shult got in and provided a spark, but it was much too late in my opinion. He brings such energy and emotion that they need to get him on the floor more, even just minute here and there.
    d) appears Maschinot is over his ankle injury as his quickness was there, but he looked rusty and needs to get a bad play out of his head immediatley - seemed to revert to last years form.
    e) Good to see Austin hit the floor for a bit, as he is getting over his ankle, but it did look like it was bothering him a bit when he came out
    f) A couple of the set plays worked very well when they were executed. There was a long inbound pass on one play that was very nice.

Sorry for the length of the post - overall this was the most disappointing game I have seen this year. If they do not get their act together by Friday, they could lose to the indians and not make the region again this year.
I find it remarkable that you went through this entire list and did not mention the turnovers. I think it's almost 100 in the last 5 games.

Seriuosly though on the turnovers for this team, yes once again there were way too many. All players continue to contribute to this number. This seems to be a constant for this team this year. It almost seems like the guys are surprised at the quickness the opposing team is playing defense. They are not ready for them to step into the passing lanes, or for them to swipe at the ball while they are holding it, etc. Not sure if that is coaching, lack of playing time or why it is that way. But IMO by this time in the year, they should not be surprised.

Still no set starters or rotations and it's February. It may be time to quit worrying about who is not playing enough and win some games. This team has a lot of talent and some very dynamic role players. No reason to not be competative with any 9th Region team, with one exception.

But then again what do I know.....I just take pictures.

I agree with you 100%. That is one of the reasons why it frustrates me to watch this group. I really expected so much more out of this team. Now, I am not even going to tell you that I expect even more next year, as I do not want to jinx anything, but if the guys all return for their senior year, and the younger guys step up, could be a pretty solid group.

Just wanted to add I personally think that some of the no rotations/substitutions/etc that we see is due to the players attitudes towards coach and the game. Seems to me he is stitting guys more for this. I remember down at Georgetown when he tried to put Wellbrock back in, he said something, and coach told him loud enough for us to hear, 'sit back down, you are not ready!' Did not see much of this from coach prior years. Maybe he is finally tired of it

Key to beating Scott is stopping Smith. If he struggles, so do the Eagles.

Also said that I felt Jones would really frustrate Wellbrock in to a bad game. Wellbrock finished with 4 points.

Inconsistent is the word that comes to mind when discussing this team. Certain times they can look very good, others down right pititful. I know there have been some injuries, but the lack of a cohesive line up does not help. Pick your starting five, ( Thelen, Wellbrock, Connelly, Pauley, Heimbrock) pick your guard subs (Riedinger,Wilson)
pick your forward subs ( Shulte, Hudepohl, a little Robinson)

Nothing against any of the other players, but you have to get some cohesion and rythim or nothing is going to change. Those 9 or 10 players can be a solid rotation, probably can't beat Holmes, maybe not Boone. However, I think they are capable of winning 4 or 5 remaining games. Beat Beechwood in the district opener, and depending on the draw maybe win a game or two in the Region.

That would put Covcath in the region championship...I just don't see that happening. They'd have to get an extremely good draw for that to happen.

I agree it is very unlikely. However, if they drew Dixie or St. Henry in the opening round, they can win either of those games. Then if they played NewCath, Ryle or Conner (all Possibilities), they have at least a chance.

Not saying it's likely but there is a chance!

I like your optimistic thinking, Vince.

I also think I heard that their schedule is in the top 15 or so as far as toughest in the state. They have beat some quality teams this year. They were also very much in the game for the majority of their losses IMO.
    Not a chance.

Actually CovCath and Scott were tied with the 17th most difficult schedules in the state according to Maxpreps.com.

Kellen Smith was the best player on the floor last night. He has great instincts and makes those around him better. Oh, and by the way, he can get to the rim with the best of them.

I don't think Taylor Mill is part of Covington. It is a city with it's own government, http://www.taylormillky.gov/

Zip codes 41011-41016 more often than not will have Covington listed in the address only because that is where the Main Post Office is located. When you order something, say on-line, you enter your shipping address as Taylor Mill you'll then see that info you entered default to Covington because of the Post Office.
