The St. Patrick boys’ basketball team has started slow this year.

It’s taken a while to get going in games, and it’s shown early with the Saints’ 1-6 record heading into Hoops for Hope night at The Shamrock on Monday when they met with 39th District opponent Augusta.

St. Patrick got off to another slow start, but were able to overcome an early 11-0 deficit to come away with a 63-53 win – the Saints first over a district opponent since a 54-50 win against Bracken County on Jan. 30, 2014, and the first against Augusta since an 82-77 win on Dec. 10, 2011.

Sorry I didn't get to meet you last night. I stealthly watched the Panthers open the first red-hot taking a 11-0 lead. Was impressed with Saints "no quit" effort. Thought the 3rd quarter 3 point contest between Philpot and Jones was pretty exciting (each traded back to back long 3's twice in a matter of 45(?)secs). 4th quarter turned with Bauer's successful hard drives among the trees and the Panthers missing consecutive front ends of 1and 1's. No question, this Saints team has great chemistry and determination. Big Ben coming back will be a quantum leap forward. If Garrison gets in the mix, he will create a different dynamic.

Fun atmosphere at The Shamrock tonight.

And always good to put a BGP username with a real person. Good to meet you, SM.
It was great to meet you as well.

They scored 11 points before St. Pat scored any.

Gotta love the smaller schools starting to improve. Hopefully St. Pats can make some noise later in the year!

Saint turnovers (at least 2 or 3 before they got a shot off) and Panther 3s.

Like a slug in the snow.

I agree with DukeDog too. Love the small schools hanging tough. Good luck this year Saints!
