Buddy had been here for a while. He's a good coach but it was his time to go. Completely different situation.

Principal is gone after this year anyways from what I am told, headed to central office.

You're right, but they do have a lot of input. Especially when they're getting paid what Mark is. It would be hard to find an A.D. east of Lexington that makes more money than he does.

Well, all I know is it's a mess. I've been told so many things over that last couple of hours my head's spinning. Everything from parents going to the board saying that if Howell's not gone they're leaving, to Swift not retiring so he knows that Strader won't get the job. I'm not sure what to believe. Not sure who's running things. Between this, the baseball issues, and so many football players leaving, I'm not sure what will become of the athletics at Ashland. With all that said, I hate this for my Tomcats.

I heard a little about this situation tonight. Like most schools...you have to tread lightly around certain folks.

Fire the head coach coming off a 24-6 season only to turn around and hire his freshman coach who went 6-23 in his one year coaching varsity basketball? If this happens, there is some interesting stuff going on behind the scenes at Ashland.

Howell did a great job restoring the pride to Ashland Basketball. They struggled down the stretch this year going 4-4 in their last 8 games but they have good kids returning.

You have to believe something is in the works if a coach is not renewed after a very solid season. Having watched Straderís year at Russell, Iím not convinced that is the direction they are headed but I have been wrong before. Ashland is still Ashland and they should not settle for just any coach.

How many and what football players have left? I know Will Adkins left for Spring Valley, but who else was there?

And lost to a good Boyd Co. team (ask Fern Creek). When parents start crying mistreatment things tend to go south for high school coaches in this day and time. Tough to be a high school coach, and walk the fine line of discipline and mistreatment.

I gotta say from what Ive heard this is garbage! Kids are so soft these days...mommy and daddy go complain and then all the sudden a successful young coach is fired?! Why would anyone want to coach at Ashland now?? I assume this was a superintendent or board decision. They probably go whichever way the wind is blowing. So what are these baseball issues?? Football players leaving? Who? I imagine most of those things are kid/mommy/daddy thinking they are better than they are and deserve more playing time. Like coaches dont want their best players playing?!? Get real. Similar to the bball players that left for Fairview a couple years ago and went on to form the worst team in the region ladt year. Terrible decision by the Ashland powers that be.
