How soon we forget. Bracken beat Harrison less than 2 years ago in the first round of the regional tournament.

Or are you asking about Bracken vs. Mason specifically?

Sara Sticklen scored 40 at The Fieldhouse in a District Tournament win.

Papa mentioned the 98 game. Bracken also won a Regional Tournament game at The Fieldhouse against Mason County in 1989.

Just something about playing at Mason County. I don’t know if it’s the gym, or the fact it’s just the name Mason County that Bracken County cannot get over.

Mason has another very winnable game Friday at home against East Carter.

Bracken County entertains Montgomery County Thursday night.

Thia game was a shocker to me. Royals full court press completely shredded Bracken in the first half. I have no stats, but suspect the Polar Bears did not get off a decent shot 25% of the time in that half. Bracken looked as if they knew where the open man would be, but continually made the bad pass or lost the ball on the dribble. Just seemed like feral cats, rather than the usual-disciplined Hinson team. 2nd half was just bad shooting in the 3rd and then the 4th was a repeat of the pressing first half as buckets and turnovers were traded about equally. Glad to see Coach Kirk get his first win as the Royals' coach.

That I don't know. That was the year than my son graduated and the Royals were not good. District record was 1-2 (also lost to St. Patrick that season and edged Bracken later on in the season).

My daughter graduated ten years later and they were better.

I'm just going by what the Scoreboard archives say.

Observations by old eyes: I sure can see why Mason has averaged so many turnovers to date. One super athlete continually looks to make routine plays into spectacular. Coach Kirk is known for his disciplined teams. It is going to take time to harness this feral cat and get the Royals playing that way. Tonight his pressing game plan completely undid the Polar Bears. Coach Hinson's son is going to be a good one...smooth stroke, heady player, good handle and only a freshman.

Iím surprised Bracken didnít press. Might as well have when they were down 20 and see what happens. When I get him Iíll post how many wins Bracken County has at the Fieldhouse.

I was thinking that the Lady Bears beat Mason at the fieldhouse for a District title during the Patrick Kelsch era.

    A) I just wanted to type Feral Cat so I'd fit in this thread. Feral Cat.

    B) I couldn't be happier for Brian, he is a good coach, a great man, and I am sure he savored this first one last night.

    C) I believe that he will do great things at Mason County after he rebuilds it the right way. "You have to go through stuff to get to stuff." He will help these young men get through the stuff.

Bracken County is tough to figure.

2-21-11 Lady Bears beat Mason @ Mason in opening round of district. Patrick Kelsch best Mason in two District Championship games as well, both teams were in Brooksville

Wasn't too surprised to see this outcome . IMO, Royals win Friday and the outcome on Saturday will be different than most are expecting. Kirk will be fine!

    Go Royals!
