Sounds like a win for ashland. I wish him nothing but the best. What does his wife teach?

Im not sure what courses she could teach. Shes been the principal at Lemon Mills Elementary in Scott County since it opened as a new school about 5 years ago.

Seems like a big time get for the Ashland program. Getting a guy that was most recently an interim head coach at an NCAA Division II program is nothing to scoff at.

Home run hire, imo. I've been doing some research on coach Mays and his resume is quite impressive for a head coach at the high school level. Coach Happy Osborne speaks highly of him as well.

I agree! This is a big-time hire. Good Luck Tomcats! The cupboards are full and with this hire, Ashland should be the dominate team in the region again.

They're certainly on the right track for that to happen. However I also believe coach Howell had a lot to do with making it happen. Had he not had the success he did in such a short period of time Ashland would not have been able to land a coach with Mays resume. A coach with his pedigree would have simply turned the job down a few years ago. Ashland seems to be in pretty good shape at the moment though.

One of the Ashland Elementary Schools should have a principal opening as they are hiring that principal for the High School next year, so I am told.

    JDEaston,
I agree 100%. Coach Howell built the program back up to where it is really to win a Regional title. Mays is a great hire and will probably get them back to Rupp. But I believe Coach Howell would have got them back to Rupp as well. Regardless, now is the time to sit back and enjoy.

There were a lot of people that were pushing for Strader early on after Howell was fired. I didn't really get it because it would have been a lateral move, but there was some substance to it. From what I understand this group of people wanting Strader went to Mark Swift as well as recruited other Tomcat fans to do the same, but Swift had bigger plans it seems.

I was just going by what you had said in the open job thread. That mark it down that Strader would get the job. I always thought if they had planned to give him the job it would have been done in a couple of weeks or less. I figured when it went on this long they never planned on staying inside the program unless no one else was interested. I also think Ashland still garners a lot of attention. It is a prestigious job plus with the weakness of the 16th overall there is a great chance to experience some success.

Will Strader and others stay on staff?

That position has already been filled, but I’m told there is an assistant principal position open at Ashland Middle School.

I’d be shocked based on Strader’s wife’s social media post.
