1.Apollo Eagles(8-1) – UP 1 – Since losing to Catholic to start the season, the Eagles have won 8 straight games. They were 4-0 last week, as they knocked off Ohio County, OHS, Greenwood and Owensboro Catholic to win the Owensboro Invitational. It seems like everyone who steps on the floor for Apollo is contributing in a positive way. Zach Hopewell(17ppg) led the Eagles to the OIT title, picking up MVP honors for the tournament. Alex Gray was a big contributor as well, averaging 16 points and 7 boards per game over the tournament. Apollo will now host their own Holiday tournament(Holy Cross, Warren Central, Central Hardin, New Cath, Lou Butler & Oldham County).

2.Meade County Greenwave(8-2) –DOWN 1 - Meade went 2-1 in the Webster County Christmas tourney, knocking off Barren County & Webster County before falling in the championship game to Callaway County. The Waves are starting to become more balanced around James Baker, as Dawson Gagel, Noah Schwartz & Chesney Weick all averaged double figure scoring in the tournament. Meade will travel to Louisville Eastern’s holiday tournament this week(Eastern,Central,Bardstown,Beechwood & Mayfield).

3.Hancock County Hornets(9-1) – UP 1 – Hancock bounced back from their only loss of the season, winning 3 straight to win their own Christmas tournament. They got wins against Shawnee, Livingston Central and Louisville Holy Cross. Brenden Lewis took home tournament MVP honors and continues to rank among the highest scorers in the region, at 19ppg. Jacob White emerged as another go to guy throughout the tournament. This week Hancock will travel to Tecumseh, IN for their holiday tournament.

4.Muhlenberg County Mustangs(7-4) – DOWN 1 –
The Mustangs were a bad 4th quarter away from playing for the Mercer County tournament title, as they lost a late lead to Lincoln County. They bounced back to knock off Boyle County 64-55 to take 3rd place. Muhlenberg may be the most balanced team in the region, placing an impressive 5 guys in double figure scoring(Mcelwain 17, Noffisinger 12, Saling 12, Michell 10 & Terry 10). The Stangs already dropped a lopsided one to Lexington Catholic in the Tradition Bank. They play West Jessamine today.

5.Owensboro Red Devils(5-5) – SAME – OHS went 2-1 in the OIT last week. OHS opened pool play with an impressive 72-71 win over Greenwood. Jacoby Harris got a tip in at the buzzer for the win. After dropping their 2nd game to Apollo in 6 days, they bounced back to outlast Ohio County 66-62. Cory Gardner has stepped up to lead the Devils as of late. Coach Drake still seems to be searching for the right collection of guys, that will help the Devils reach their potential. Owensboro will face a tough test this week as they travel to Bowling Green’s Holiday Tournament(BG, Doss, S Warren, Franklin Simpson, Greenwood, Murray)

6.Owensboro Catholic Aces(6-4) –SAME – After losing 2 straight overtime games in the 9th district, Catholic bounced back by sweeping their pool in the OIT. They got a tough win over Bartlett TN to open the tournament. Next, they avenged their loss to Daviess County with a big 4th quarter comeback. They closed pool play with a big win over Hopkins Central, to reach the finals, before falling to Apollo. This week they travel to Ashland(Simon Kenton, DeSales, Bracken Co, Russell, Boyd Co).

7.Daviess County Panthers(6-5) – SAME – DC seems to be getting better every time the play. They have won 4 of their last 6 games, going 2-1 in the OIT. They got 2 big wins over Hopkins Central and Bartlett, TN. They held a 4th quarter lead over Catholic before coming up short in the end. Coach Hayden is getting a balanced attack from Blake Bosewell, Jay Owen, Ty Bowling and Caden Coomes. This week they will head to LaRue County(Russell Co, N Bullitt, Grayson Co, Thomas Nelson)

8.Ohio County Eagles(4-7) – SAME – Even though they went 0-3 in OIT pool play, the Eagles showed very well. They played Apollo to a last second, 2 point game and played led Owensboro in the 4th quarter. You can see that Tony Hopper is still putting his stamp on this team, but they are getting there. Ross Tichenor is emerging as one of the better post players in the region at 15ppg. Ohio knocked off Edmonson yesterday to open their holiday tournament. They face will play Barren Co and Clinton Co next.

9.Grayson County Cougars(4-7) – UP 2 – The Cougars have won 2 of their last 3 games, splitting games down in Graves County last week. They dropped a close game to Murray 49-44 before bouncing back with a 64-54 win over Carlisle County. This week they will head to LaRue County(Russell Co, N Bullitt, Daviess Co, Thomas Nelson)

10.Edmonson County Wildcats(3-7) – SAME – Edmonson knocked off Cloverport 75-51 before dropping the opening game of their holiday tournament to Ohio County 52-45. They will host Clinton and Barren County at home over the next 2 days.

11.Butler County Bears(3-6) – DOWN 2 – The Bears fall though the poll continues, as split a pair of games last week. They lost their 5th in a row against Buckhorn 63-48 but stopped the losing streak against Hickman County 82-45. They have 1 game this week, traveling to #3 Hancock on Friday.

12.Breck County Tigers(3-8) – SAME – Breck dropped the final 2 games of their Christmas tournament and are off until after the new year.

13.Mclean County Cougars(1-8) – SAME – Mclean got their first win of the season over Henry County 69-61 before dropping their final 2 games in Butler County. They lost to Buckhorn 56-51 & Green Co 62-43. While their record doesn’t reflect it, the Cougars are improving. They are off until 1/6.

14.Cloverport Aces(4-8) – SAME – Cloverport dropped all 4 games in the Breck County Holiday Tournament last week. They are off until after the new year.

15.Trinity Raiders(4-6) – SAME – Trinity was off this past week but get back in action today, hosting their own Holiday Tournament vs St Mary’s.
