12th region Basketball

February rolls in with the 12th Region as wide open as it has been in a few years. The road to Rupp begins in a little more than two weeks and there is no clear favorite as to who will cut down the nets. The top two teams fell in 12th Region play last week and there is a new #1 this week. Can the Mercer County Titans hold on to the top spot or will they be bounced as Pulaski County and Southwestern were? It’s gearing up to be a great month of basketball and the end will be here before we know it. Here is this week’s 12th Region rankings and review.

12th Region Rankings

1) Mercer County (19-5) – This week the Titans jump to the #1 spot in the 12th Region after beating Pulaski County 99-89. They also beat Grant County 85-67. In the game versus Pulaski County the Titans had two players with double-doubles. Trevon Faulkner had 29 points and 12 rebounds while Gunnar Gillis added 26 points and 10 rebounds. In the game versus Grant County, Trevon Faulkner once again put up a double-double as he scored 29 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Mercer County has now won eleven of their last twelve games. But, the week ahead is a challenging one as the Titans will play three games on the road. Mercer County travels to Lincoln County, Frankfort, and North Hardin.

2) Pulaski County (21-5) – This past week the Maroons won three of four games. They lost to Mercer County 89-99, beat Somerset 78-48, beat Monroe County in the Robbie Davis Memorial Classic at Clinton County 77-60, and beat Rockcastle County 74-67. In the win over Somerset, Landon Powell scored 24 points to lead Pulaski. This week the Maroons only play one game but it is huge as they travel to crosstown rival Southwestern.

3) Lincoln County (19-7) – The Patriots went three for three last week as they beat Southwestern 65-53, beat Garrard County 63-56 in overtime, and beat Anderson County 61-54. Devin Alcorn led the way against Southwestern as he scored 26 points. Noah Young added 21 points in the win. In the win over Garrard County, both Young and Alcorn were once again leading scorers as they had 22 and 20 points respectively. This week the Patriots host Mercer County then travel to Danville for a 45th District showdown.

4) Southwestern (20-5) – The Warriors had their worst week of the season as they failed to win a game last week. Southwestern lost to Lincoln County 53-65, lost to Casey County 77-80, and lost to Scott County in the Jock Sutherland Classic at Lafayette 81-89. This week the Warriors hope to improve as they stay at home to host Boyle County then faces off with rival Pulaski County.

5) Rockcastle County (15-10) – The Rockets won two out of three games last week. Rockcastle beat McCreary Central 72-66, beat Danville 72-58, but lost to Pulaski County 67-74. This week the Rockets will play at home as they host Jackson County and Garrard County.

6) West Jessamine (11-14)
– The Colts were the winners of two games last week but lost the third game. West beat Boyle County 54-46, beat East Jessamine 74-56, but lost to North Hardin 57-95 in the Robbie Davis Memorial Classic at Clinton County. In the win over Boyle County, Isaiah Okesson scored 18 point to lead West Jessamine in the win. This week the Colts play at home as they host Woodford County then Wayne County.

7) Wayne County (12-13) – The Cardinals won both games last week as they beat Clay County 84-65 and beat McCreary Central 74-49. Jakson Baker had a double-double in the win over McCreary Central as he scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. This week the Cardinals play three games on the road as they travel to Somerset, West Jessamine, and Whitley County.

8) Boyle County (12-12) – Last week the Rebels lost both games they played. They lost to West Jessamine 46-54 and lost to crosstown rival Danville 56-61.In the loss to Danville, Bryce Sloan scored 20 points to lead the Rebels. This week Boyle County travels to Southwestern then hosts Kentucky Country Day.

9) Casey County (9-16) – Last week Casey County had one of their best weeks of basketball this year. They won both games they played beating Southwestern 80-77 and Woodford County 73-65. This week the Rebels only play one game as they travel to Garrard County.

10) Danville (8-15) – The Admirals won one out of three games last week. They lost to Garrard County 41-57, beat Boyle County 61-56, and lost to Rockcastle County 58-72. This week the Admirals play at home as they will host Model then 45th District foe Lincoln County.

11) East Jessamine (8-18)
– The Jaguars lost both games they played last week. They lost to Madison Southern 67-81 and lost to crosstown rival West Jessamine 56-74. This week the Jaguars host Frankfort then travel to McCreary Central.

12) McCreary Central (13-10) – The Raiders lost both games they played last week and have now lost 6 of their past seven games. They lost to Rockcastle County 66-72 and lost to Wayne County 49-74. This week the Raiders travel to Clinton County and Oneida Baptist Institute before returning home to host East Jessamine.

13) Garrard County (5-19) – The Golden Lions got their first district win of the season last week as they beat Danville 57-41. They then gave 45th District leader Lincoln County all they wanted but came up short losing 56-63 in overtime. They later lost to Menifee County 57-63. This week the Golden Lions host Casey County and Nelson County. They also travel to Rockcastle County.

14) Somerset (9-14) – The Briar Jumpers lost both games they played last week losing to Madison Southern 47-71 and to Pulaski County 48-78. This week the Jumpers play at home as they host Wayne County and Sayre.

15) Burgin (12-11) – The Bulldogs had a good week last week winning both games they played. Burgin beat Riverside Christian 60-32 and beat J Frank White Academy, TN 60-46. This week the Bulldogs travel to Kentucky School f/t Deaf, host Lynn Camp, and go to Brown.

16) Kentucky School f/t Deaf (2-12) – The Colonels only played one game last week and lost to St. Francis 59-23. This week the Colonels host Burgin then go on the road to Riverside Christian.
