The last game made Holmes mad. I had a feeling Newport would take the brunt of it.

I hope this means that Holmes plays the way they can for the rest of the year.

This game was never close. Holmes led by 34 (54-20) with about 6 minutes to go in the 4th quarter and Henley pulled all 5 starters, while Newport left theirs in, which is the reason for the 19 point difference in the final.
As for the game:
1st Quarter Holmes jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back from there. Pittman dominated and was blocking shots left and right. I think he had 3 blocks and 8 points alone in the first quarter.
2nd quarter was the Ricardo Johnson show. He dominated in every aspect. Defensively he blocked 2 shots in a row against the same kid who got the loose ball after the first block and tried to put it back up a second time. Offensively he got to the rim at will and hit a few 3 pointers to push the Holmes lead up in the 20's. 2nd quarter was highlighted by 2 Brandon Housely dunks in less than a minute. First one, Pittman missed a shot in traffic, and Housely came in and threw it down one handed as it bounced off the rim. Second dunk the Newport pg tried to cross him, Housely picked his pocket and went down and threw it down again with one hand.
After halftime Holmes put it in to cruise control. Newport really struggled all game with Holmes length and defensive intensity. As I stated earlier, they only had 20 points with 6 minutes to go in the 4th. JJ hit the boards hard tonight and was a man down low when he had the ball which was very refreshing to see.
I'd say Pittman, R. Johnson, J. Johnson and Riley finished in double figures with Housely rounding in at around 8 points. He fouled out late in the game.
Not sure of anyone else's totals but R. Johnson was likely the leading scorer and Riley finished with 11 points on 4 of 4 shooting, 3 for 3 from behind the arc. I believe he's now 14 for 17 on the year. The kid can flat out shoot the rock.
I'd say Newport was wishing they didn't play Holmes after a loss after tonight. They were flat out dominated in every aspect of the game but Holmes still needs to hit the boards harder.

Geez way to be competitive and keep it close boys.

I knew Holmes would dominate and could of won by 30 but Henley is too good of a coach. I know Housley would of loved to win by 30 but a 19 point win isn't bad either. Looks like if Henley can keep the Bulldogs playing like they did tonight, they will be the number 2 ranked team in the state. How did the Newport crowd welcome Housley back?

They are my #2 ranked team right now.

With a huge "Housely Who?" sign in the rafters.
They also gave very loud boo when his name was announced but luckily the Holmes fans drowned it out with a lot of cheers. Anytime he got the ball they chanted "traitor" but after his two dunks in less than a minute in the second quarter they quickly quit yelling things.
I will say this. The Newport players played very physical against him and anytime a screen was set on him, an elbow was thrown with it toward him along with a lot of pushing. Kudos to him for keeping his head and just playing the game rather than stooping down to that level. Housely is a very classy kid and I'm sure Coach Henley is glad to have him on his team.

BTW, R. Johnson ran the point a lot tonight when Riley was out. I think it might be a sign of things to come Sunday....

I am glad Housely stayed with his game. When he was at Newport he played hard and I'm happy for him that he transferred to Holmes - at least there he will get some looks to go further with basketball and his education. Newporrt has for the past few years had the talent but never seems to get it done. IMO - there is a problem somewhere - just hope someone can resolve it.

I still don't think Riley is taking enough attempts. He has to get 10 to 12 looks a game. He is shooting 80 percent from the floor. I think he will be the key Sunday. If he is agressive, the game can be a classic. If not SC will probably pull away in the 4th.

I agree. He was 4 for 4 from the field last night but did pass up a few looks. I've been trying to tell him since the season started to be more aggressive and shoot the way he did against Beechwood and good things will come to this Holmes team. He will likely be the best shooter on the floor in every game this year.

looks like Holmes is getting back on track just in time for Scott County. I am excited and looking forward to catching the game. I think playing Ricardo at point when Riley is out is a great move. How old is the third Johnson? Any relation to the other two brothers?

He's a senior. No relation.

I figured the game would go about like it did. Newport just have to keep there heads up and play hard every game. Glad to see Housely is fittin in well.
