Default Covington Catholic v Newport Catholic Predictions

Huge rival game in Park Hills tonight. They will be packed and stacked. Two teams with a chance to win the region.

Does Grant put Hightchew on Ruthsatz and risk foul trouble?

Can't wait to watch the battle of the bigs. The youngster from NC deservedly gets praise but Tobler (sp?) has had one of the quieter strong seasons of anyone in NKY. It will be a good matchup of two that we'll get to watch again next season.

One of the most exciting high school games and best environments I have been in was CCH/NC in 2004 in Park Hills. Huge start by NCC with a big comeback from CCH. Great crowd that night. Hope tonight matches it.

This will be a great game and likely the top game in NKY tonight.

I think Grant would be wiser to put Ryann on Ruthsatz with his length. I wouldnt risk putting Hightchew in foul trouble. Here is what I would do if I were the coach.

    Beuter/Massie
    Ryan/Ruthsatz
    Miller/Pauly
    McDonald/Tobler
    Hightchew/Frederick

Ryan would provide the much needed length and athleticism to defend Ruthsatz. Miller is very similar to Pauly, they both do the dirty work. McDonald and Tobler can battle on the block. Hightchew is strong enough to body up to Frederick and make him work for everything.

I will take CovCath though in this one since its at Park Hills and the Crazies will be out in full force.

Ryan's not a good enough defender to guard Ruthsatz, Hightchew will probably guard him until Seibert subs in, then Seibert would do the honors and a good job with his length.

What about Miller on Ruthsatz? Andy is one of the best defenders in the Region. Can he stay with Nick?

ZERO chance he can contain Ruthsatz.

I agree, I was thinking the same thing as I read Qs response. Not sure exactly who CovCath has on the bench but I believe the Schulte kid is now healthy for NCC and should also provide some inside help off the bench along with Seibert. It should definitely be a great game.

Agree as well. It has to be Hightchew or Seibert IMO.

I would put Hightchew on Ruthsatz. Brady's defense will be more important than his offense in this one imo.

The only player I see who can "contain" him is Brady. Of course, as I stated in some other thread it's not one-on-one basketball so help D will be key. Can CCH make shots when Ruthsatz is cut off? Key for the game.

Agree as well. Just think Seibert would be the next best to guard him when Hightchew is out because of his length. You make a good point. CovCath will have to knock down some shots if NewCath can cut Ruthsatz off and possibly contain him. That will be a very tough task for the Breds.

After watching NCC against Boone the other night, they don't look like the same team that played in the Lloyd tournament. I don't know if they are tired, beaten down or just had an 'off' game but their offense was pretty choppy at best and they didn't have the flow that they had earlier in the year.

I like McDonald on the slip screen and pounding the ball inside to him more. I'd like to see Miller shoot the ball more on the offensive end. He's got a nice shot, but it doesn't seem as though NCC looks to get him involved. I think NCC would be better served with Highchew at the point and Beuter (sp?) at the two guard. I like how Highchew attacks. He's a high risk / high reward type of guard but I think he gives the Breds an extra threat going to the basket plus it allows Beuter to get some spot up jump shots beyond the arc.

If McDonald gets back to being a main scoring threat for NCC (scoring in the 20's again) then I like their chances. If NCC doesn't get him involved like he was earlier in the year then I think the Colonels win. I'm thinking NCC won't go back to what was successful for them earlier in the season..... Cov Cath 69, NCC 60.
