Camels hold off the Mustangs in the crosstown battle after Brossart had taken a 1-point lead with just over 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Totally agree with you. A bit puzzled tonight why Russell kept inserting the younger Russell into this one when he clearly struggled on defense against the extremely quick Mustangs. I guess they needed him in the absence of Wilson (out with strep throat) but he ended up fouling out.

Agree with you on Coach Code. sounds like a ugly win but still a win. When you play rival games, anything can happen.

Lack of team play really affected the Camels in this game. Like I said before when this Camels team plays as a team and not pick and choose who they pass the ball to they are much more successful. On the other hand Brossart played one heck of a game tonight and really get after it on defense.

Still hard to believe they didn't build the high school gym with more capacity than the middle school

Interesting game in many aspects. I'm thinking Campbell County outperformed even their own expectations in the first half. Joel Day was on fire, netting 17 points in the first 16 minutes, that inluded four 3-pointers, complimented by long-range bombs by Nathan Schaefer and Tanner Clos. The Camels also maximized their free-throw opportunities, knocking home 10 of 11 chances in the half.

Meanwhile Brossart did their best to keep up. Senior Bryce Donnelly employed his speed and athlethicism, scoring 12 points and taking a pair of charges, while Sophomore Ethan Eilerman contributed 8 to keep the Mustangs to within 11 points at intermission. The Mustangs did not get as many FT chances, hitting on only 3 of 4 opportunities, giving the Camels a 7 point edge from the charity stripe.

I personally felt that we had taken Campbell's best shot, and despite the 11 point deficit, were still in the ballgame. That proved out in the third quarter, when Day went scoreless and the Mustangs managed a 15-6 advantage to make it a 2-point game at 42-40 with eight minutes still to play.

Momentum remained in a white Brossart jersey early on in the fourth when the Mustangs poked a nose in front at 49-48 with just over five minutes remaining in the game. From that point however, triggered by an errant Schaefer 3-point attempt that fell in the lap of Reid Jolly who cleaned it up, the Mustangs offensive effort sputtered, and as we fell behind were forced to foul, and the Camels made the best of those free-throw opportunities to draw off to the 64-51 win.

The Camels improve to 14-2, while the Mustangs fall to 8-6 and should continue to progress as we head towards tournament time.

Campbell County played without the services of starter Drew Wilson, who was out with streph (sp) throat.

Brossart moves on to the 10th Region "A" Tournament this coming week with our goal set on a return to the "A" State Tournament later on this month.

    Totals: 16-4- 7/10-51 8-6 1-3

    CC: Wirth 1-0-0/0-2, R.Jolly 6-0-3/3-15, Schaefer 1-1-2/4-7, Clos 1-1-8/9-13, Day 3-4-9/9-27,

We drove past at around 8:00 and the parking lot was jammed full of vehicles.

Good to see Jolly back for the Camels.
