Brandon Cooper hired at Garrard County
Brandon Cooper, a 2000 Garrard County graduate, has been hired as the new basketball coach at his alma mater. Cooper, 30, played for Dave McDaniel and Cecil Combs at Garrard and went on to play at Union College. He has been an assistant for several seasons at Southwestern High School in Somerset.
I'm very excited about the hire for Garrard. They've made a couple really good basketball hires in Lee DeForest and Brad Sizemore, but both used the position as a stepping stone for a better position. Brandon is a Garrard guy who is finally coming home. There is young talent at the middle school and high school and with a little work there could be a good deal of success. Best of luck, Coop!

I think they were already looking as soon as South Laurel came open. They basically expected Coach Sizemore to move to South (although it ended up being North) at some point, it perhaps happened a couple years earlier than they expected. There had always been community scuttlebutt that Brandon would become the coach eventually and now that day has come.
