Good showing by the Red Devils playing well lately. Boyd may have been a little flat after the win at Ashland last night.

This was a fantastic game. Russell led by 6-8 points for much of the 1st half. Boyd came on strong to start the 2nd half and quickly made it a one or two possession game for the remainder of the night. The teams traded big shots down the stretch and Russell had a good look at a three for the win, but couldn't get it to go down. Great job by the Lions to get the win on a quick turnaround after an emotional win over arch-rival Ashland on Friday night.

Despite the loss, the Devils have come a long way in recent weeks. I'm not saying that they're suddenly a region contender, but Russell's not to be overlooked. With their current form, they could pick off anyone in the 16th.

Boyd's Reese Robinson led all scorers with 27. Charlie Jachimczuk paced Russell with 19.

What's your assessment of the 16th Region right now? I've got Ashland and Boyd as 1a and 1b. I would have said that Morgan is a solid #3, but they lost to Raceland tonight. It's looking like several teams are interchangeable after the top two.

Boyd and Ashland are certainly the two top teams at the moment and after that I think it's a tossup for several teams. I know that given Russell's overall record most probably won't agree with me, but based on how they are playing at this point in the season they may very well be the third best team in the region. This season is starting to remind me of the 90's when it was Ashland, Boyd, Russell and then everyone else a few steps behind them.

I think it is back like the late 90's the regional title this year will run through 64th District Ashland/Boyd. I personally think that out of the 14 teams in the region 11 or even 12 o them could beat each other on any given night. I just think Boyd/Ashland are a notch or two above everyone else.

Gotta throw Randy Ward's Greenup teams in there, as well. Boyd, Ashland, or Greenup won every 16th Region title in the 90's. Russell had some deep runs but couldn't quite get over the hump.

The results this season certainly support your belief. Everybody after Ashland and Boyd have some wins and losses you didn't expect, based on prior results.
