Week one is in the books. The presumptive number one squad survived a nail-biter on the road, the preseason number two doesn't have its (possibly) best player; and if the first week is any indication, the season looks to be a great one for the 10th. Let's take a quick look at last week.

    1. Clark County (2-0, 2-0 region)

The Cardinals started the week with a 50-point thumping of Nicholas County. Chase Taylor led in scoring with 18, Brennan Canada filled the stat line with 13/6/4, and Ryan Cooper chipped in a dozen. The bench got significant playing time in this one. Game number 2 of the week was a different story, as the Cards survived a major scare. Scott missed a bunch of free throws down the stretch and Coach Cook's charges prevailed 62-60 overcoming foul trouble with big production from the bench. Junior forward Jehdon Jenkins in particular gave the Cards a much-needed lift with several starters sitting, and Brennan Canada had 15 and 14. Reports from the game indicated that the Scott press helped induce 29 Cardinal turnovers. Huge schedule this week with games against Madison Central, Pendleton County and Campbell County giving the Cards the chance to distance themselves from the rest of the 10th.

    2. Scott (1-1, 1-1 region)

On the strength of a 75-50 drubbing of Montgomery County in the opener and the nail-biting loss to Clark County on Saturday, Scott moved to number two this week. Had it not been for a string of missed charity tosses late in the second game, Scott could be sitting at 2-0. Junior Trey Meister was named Scott's player of the game in this one.

    3. Pendleton County (2-0, 1-0 region)

Dontaie Allen led the Wildcats with 36 in the season-opening 79-36 drubbing of Bracken County and added another 20 in a 12-point win over Clay County at North Laurel. Grant Walsh and Jacob Yelton are both averaging in double figures, and Adam Antrobus isn't far behind at 9 PPG. Pendleton plays three games this week, including hosting Clark County on Friday and playing LCA at Robertson County on Saturday. Should give us a good idea of where they sit in the pecking order in the 10th.

    4. Campbell County (1-1, 0-0 region)

The Camels started the season with a 50-37 loss to 9th region powerhouse Cooper. Senior Tanner Clos and junior Reid Jolly led the way in scoring with 11 apiece. They rebounded with an 82-59 win over Wilmington Ohio, putting five in double figures. Clos with 17, Jolly and Joel Day with 16, Drew Wilson 14, and Tanner Lawrence with 10. Jolly is pulling down 7.5 boards per game. The Camels end a 3-game week with a tilt at region #1 Clark County.

    5. Mason County (1-1, 1-0 region)

It was determined before the season opener that Isaiah Garrison would once again not be with the team, but that didn't stop the Royals from dominating St. Patrick in the traditional season-opener. Xylon Frey led the scoring parade with 15/9, Leevi Dunaway had 14/8 and Jaylen Lofton added 11 as the bench f=got a bunch of playing time. The result was not as kind at Simon Kenton in a 75-72 loss that saw the Royals claw back from a 22-point deficit only to fall short. Dunaway and Lofton had 24 and 23 in this one, with Caleb Boyd adding 13. Mason County travels to Bourbon County on Tuesday, then hosts Scott at The Fieldhouse on Friday.

    6. Paris (2-0, 0-0 region)

The Greyhounds posted a pair of impressive out-of-region wins last week, toppling Franklin County by 10, then dominating Nelson County 80-58. Player-of-the-year candidate Eric Johnson poured in 29 points in the opener, and added 19 against Nelson County. Taleigh Adams and Travis Strings are averaging 14.5 and 13.5, and Marcus Ashford 9; and Jalan Byars leads with 6 boards per game. This week finds Paris in the 40th district with tilts against Montgomery County and Bourbon County.

    7. Bishop Brossart (0-1, 0-0 region)

The Mustangs played just one game last week and found themselves on the short end of a 62-59 thriller against Newport; with a reported controversial no-call ending the contest. Zach Hamberg had 20 for the 'stangs, and will certainly benefit from the return of senior Bryce Donnelly. St. Patrick, Beechwood and Ludlow grace the schedule this week.

    8. Bourbon County (1-0, 0-0 region)

New coach Lamont Campbell's Colonels started the season off on the right foot with a convincing 69-46 win at home over 16th-region foe Fleming County. Titus Ransom had a monster 20/15 game and junior guard Zach Workman had a team-high 24 points. This week will be busy as the Colonels face Mason County, bitter rival Paris and Frederick Douglass.

    9. Montgomery County (0-2, 0-1 region)

Junior guard Myron Ralls is averaging 24 points and 7 boards per game for Matt Daniel's Indians, who dropped both games last week - a 2-point loss at Rowan County and a 75-50 defeat at the hands of #2 Scott. Pharoah Davis is also pulling down 7 boards per contest. This week sees a possible 0-5 start as Paris, Campbell County and 11th-region powerhouse Madison Central are on the schedule.

    10. Nicholas County (1-1, 1-1 region)

The Bluejackets righted the ship after the 50-point loss to Clark County with a nice 80-63 win over Augusta. Leading scorer Spencer Morris is averaging 21 points per game and 10 boards; and is nearly 60% from the field; while Sam Hamilton and Brady Switzer are at 11.5 PPG. This week the Jackets play 38th-district foes Pendleton County and Harrison County.

    11. Harrison County (0-2, 0-0 region)

The 'breds fell hard against two quality out-of-region squads last week; 71-51 toLCA and 83-44 to Collins. There's a chance to nudge into the top 10 at Nicholas County this week.

    12. Bracken County (1-2, 0-1 region)

Pendleton County and the Dontaie Allen show put a running clock on the Polar Bears in the opener and Gallatin County blitzed the Bears in game two; Coach Hinson's squad came back strong behind big man Trey Deaton's 25-point 20-rebound performance in a convincing win over Williamstown. Should be a good game at Robertson County on Tuesday.

    13 Robertson County (1-1, 1-0 region)

Nice win to start the season over Augusta, followed by an inexplicable loss to Fleming County. Burden, Schalch and Bobo Swanson are leading the way for Coach Kelsch. Beat Bracken this week and move up in papa's rankings.

    14. Augusta (1-2, 0-2 region)

Double-digit region losses to Robertson County followed a 34-point win in the opener. However, the Panthers could move to 3-2 with road games at Calvary Christian and Silver Grove.

    15. St. Patrick (1-2, 0-1 region)

Coach Aaron Rigdon notched his first win in a thriller over Villa Madonna this past weekend. Brevin Jones had a big game in the win.

    16. Calvary Christian (0-0, 0-0 region)

The Cougars get their season started this week with three games.

    17. Silver Grove (0-1, 0-0 region)

The Trains struggled mightily in their only game last week, scoring only 17 points in a home game against Bellevue.

    Games to watch this week:

See the recaps above - there are a bunch of them!

Player of the week - Dontaie Allen, Pendleton County. 28 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 69% FG's, 86.7% FT's, and reportedly the finest dunk of the week.

Does anyone know why Ralls only played in one of Montgomery County's games last week?

Makes you wonder with the numbers he put up in the other game.

He was suspended for playing in something along with others around the Lexington area. There's a thread on it here somewhere.

Scott is ranked 9th in NKY coaches poll but 2nd in the 10th BGP rankings?
    Doesn't say much for rankings!
I feel like the top 7 teams could upset anyone in the 10th. GRC, PC and Mason are the most dangerous teams IMO.

I would add Scott to that list also. Not sure about Campbell or PC, will know more after GRC plays both PC and Campbell this week.

Not sure. I'll be at the game tonight and ask around. They also have another injured kid that got plenty of minutes last year that would add depth, Bryson Wieland. His is a little more serious and proof that soccer is evil.

Is Garrison coming back after year end? Rumors have it otherwise. Anybody know? Mason could be better than #5 if they get him contributing at potential.
